Last Week’s Jams (12.2 – 12.6)

In a world where folks are rushing to put out their year end lists, so you can debate their tastes, I’m just over here putting out songs with my bud RayRay. We covered a surprising 21 new songs last week, and 22 if you included a tune that’s not on any of the DSPs. Tons of rad Austin stuff like Strange Lot, Gus Baldwin, Lunar Gold…and of course the ATH Records’ own Fantastic Purple Spots. New music from FACS and Sprouts made my week complete, though I also found some soft spots in there you can dig through on the site. Don’t forget to also check out our Rock n’ Recipes with Sasha Bell of the Ladybug Transistor, just in time for their little tour and reissue! We also got to premiere a brand new Gaytheist tune worth your time!

Pretty Lightning Return with Glade Runner

We’re getting down to the end of the year folks and it seems like most sites are focused on top songs, lists and year end wrap ups. While we may or may not get there at some point, we’ve still got new tunes coming in for top 2024 contention just before the year end break. My old German pals from Pretty Lightning just shared new track “Glade Runner” and it’s definitely trying to sneak it’s way into my year end list. It features that downright nasty version of psych laden blues I’ve grown to love about the band’s sound over the years. Dig it.

Pretty Lightning will release this track as part of a new album entitled Night Wobble which is due out February 21st.

Pretty Lightning – Jangle Bowls

Rating: ★★★½☆

In these weird times we’re living in, it seems like a perfect moment to get some album reviews up since we are major slackers in that category. It makes it easy to motivate for a review when a band is kind enough to go out of their way to send us a physical copy of their release. We are hoarders people! My new pals in the German based band Pretty Lightning sent me their new album Jangle Bowls and I’m going to offer my thoughts on it after the jump. Remember, that I’ve stopped traditional reviews and tend to offer a more creative take on opinion pieces.

Some Psych Rock From Pretty Lightning

As some of us continue to say that guitar driven rock is a dying thing, I dare you to check out this new one called “Willow Valley Blues” from German based duo Pretty Lightning. With a psych rock theme, one will immediately notice the heavy guitars, wailing organ, tight drums, and majorly distorted vocals. Guitars are alive and well my friends!

Pretty Lightning will release The Rhythms of Ooze on November 10th via Fuzz Club.
