The Submissives Share Maybe Someday Single

When you listen to the Submissives, they force you to readjust your ears. Not because you either party is doing something wrong, but they simply encourage you to reposition your thoughts on what modern indie rock has become. In a get-hits-quick climate, certain styles become a dime-a-dozen, but I’m pretty sure there aren’t too many folks around operating like this Quebec outfit. They bend and mold discordant notes into the faintest hint of melodic movement; the strings almost seem like they’re just being stretched or fine-tuned, not quite ready for the show. Still, they move forward, creeping along in a sense that feels both theatrical and refreshing. Live at Value Sound Studios is out on October 11th.

Well this week marks the official 3 week countdown to the fun times we all love during SXSW. Hard to believe that things might be “normal” again this year, but it seems like we may be headed towards live shows and events once again! How exciting for everyone in the music community. SXSW Interviews: Elephant Stone

Well folks, it’s that time of year again here in Austin, TX. Well maybe not just yet, but it’s at least time to start talking about SXSW festival and the slew of bands coming into town next month. I’m sure many of you, like me, are wondering if we will all “be back to normal” or what sort of protocols will still be in place come 4 weeks? None of us truly know so it’s best to push ahead and get some excitement going for our favorite time of year. As we return to normal operations, the ATH crew will of course be prepping you as we usually do with interviews, previews, guides, photos, etc. Today we kick off our official SXSW coverage with our very first interview from Quebec based artist Elephant Stone. Feelings Meeting Share New Single

There’s a really special release coming out on Friday, and I’m not sure how many folks will be listening, so I want those of you who lean to well-crafted pop to lend a careful ear to Feelings Meeting. The Montreal outfit will release Feelings Store on Friday, so they wanted to share one last teaser single. This song shows great restraint, choosing to build careful nuance into the tune rather than hit you with a swelling chorus or the like. Slight vocal pitches indicate the song’s movement, with little flourishes of texture shimmering just behind the front of the mix…all leading to the atmospheric close that wrap’s up the song’s brilliance. SXSW Interviews: Common Holly

Who is awake this morning? Not this guy. Myself and the entire ATH crew have emerged from the week of madness known as SXSW and are somehow all working today. It was hella fun, but this is surely the worst Monday of the year. As always, we will be recapping our week here soon, but before that, I have one more interview to run which somehow slipped through the cracks last week. She-Devils Announce S/T LP

One of the handful of regrets I had from SXSW this year was not catching She-Devils during the festival…that’s especially true after hearing this new single. It’s a soulful pop twist on the revival of doo-wop nods that accompanied the garage rock burst. There’s this inherent playfulness in Audrey Boucher’s vocals, which seems to come naturally with her delivery. You’ll also hear a bit of psychedelia, though it’s spun in a manner that almost reflects a study in French electro-pop. The band announce today that they’ll release their self-titled LP on May 19th via Secretly Canadian.
