We always standby our recommendation of anything that Pop Filter puts together, and today you can stream Ray and Lorraine’s, the group’s new record. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a listen to the record ahead of time, and if I picked a must recommend track, I’d go with “Documentary Footage;” it captures the rawness of a group, while still illustrating the focus they put in the arrangements. Tracks like “Strawberry” and “For Me” offer glimpses of a sort of Aussie brand of French pop, which I’m quite keen on. And, as per usual, with multiple songwriters, the tunes twist and turn, and you’ll turn over a new favorite track with every single listen. Enjoy the full stream below.

There’s only about a week left until Pop Filter release their latest masterpiece (I’m assuming!), but they bring us one more single to illustrate just what makes their work so rewarding as a listener. Since they’re way way back as Ocean Party, they’ve always employed multiple songwriters, and in fact, every member has penned songs, so on the new single, they’re taking almost this sort of post-psychedelic dream scape route. They lock into a groove, aided by luxurious string arrangements, then the song sort of spreads out, slowly like a cloud of fog moving inland, lifting the listener as they embrace the melody. Just another reason Ray and Lorraine’s should be on your radar before its October 4th release.

We’ve had a few energetic pop rock tunes from Pop Filter and their new LP, but today, you get a bit more of that slow burn that feels perfect as we stretch into the late Summer vibes. There are so many excellent moments on this singular track, you’ll be circling back to find your favorite little momentary nugget to store in your brain. Deep vocal tones? Sure. Bits of sweeping strings, carefully placed? No doubt. Meandering solo? Indeed. Joyous gang vocals? You bet. Put it all together and you’ve got this melancholic march that celebrates the group’s emotional consistency and celebrated unity as a band. This track is on Ray and Lorraine’s, the new LP out on October 4th via Bobo Integral.
