Straight Arrows Drop Fresh Single

Having not dropped an album since 2018’s On Top LP, Sydney’s Straight Arrows are coming at you hard and fast with this fresh jam. It’s the sort you want to turn up nice and loud and let it rip right through your speakers. It should make sense that the band’s got the backing of John Dwyer and Ty Segall (who’s taking the band on the road); they’ve got this frantic scuzz rock riding high on the thumping rhythm section…all of which culminates in the sweet eruption in the chorus. You can sense the song’s anxiety slicing right through this tune here, amping up everyone that catches the group in the live setting! Single out now via Rice is Nice!

Popstrangers Share No I.D. Video

In a couple of weeks London outfit Popstrangers will be releasing their new album, In Spirit, and drawing near, I’m liking the way things are shaping up. The album’s title track is one of my favorite tunes of the year, and now we’ve got their latest, sliding into a heavier vibe. Perhaps its the video accompaniment, or just that jittering noise in the background, but there’s something slightly evil about the way this tune begins to unfold. The vocals hide in the background, letting the tension build through the thumping drum work and these anxiety-inducing elements of noise. How they manage to hold onto any pop sensibility it beyond me, but its there, giving the song this brooding bubble that hopefully catches your ear. In Spirit is out June 10th via Rice is Nice.

Popstrangers Announce In Spirit

I’ll be honest, listening to the first 45 seconds or so of the new Popstrangers single had me questioning where I’d stand when it came time to talk about it; it opens at a trudge, like slogging through the mud; I liked it, but wondered how long they’d stay in that spot. Suddenly, at 1:09, the song erupts into this gloriously fuzzy slow-burn, crashing against my ears with this wondrous melody. They set me up! Then they slide back in, only to set us all up with the charm one more time; even stretching it out a bit further…sort of like we got from the Wrens so long ago! The trio will release their new album In Spirit on June 10th via Rice Is Nice Records.

Digging This Grunge From Summer Flake

unnamed-29Stephanie Crase, of Adelaide, Australia, is the front lady behind the moniker, Summer Flake. Together, with her bandmates, she’s got a new album coming out in a little over a month on the fine label Rice is Nice Records. To amp us up for that album, they’ve got a new video for the track “Shoot and Score,” and have also debuted a whole new song, “Wine Won’t Wash Away,” which are both killer grunge-pop tracks that will help you get through the Monday. Personally, I like the way the guitars fuzz out while the vocals are very mellow and even tempered. Take a listen to both below.

Mix It Up With Lia Mice

liamiceIt’s a Friday we’re nearing the end of the week, so why not mix things up with a little something different? Lia Mice is an artist who dabbles in experimental pop music as well as scoring films, which explains a bit the sound to the track I have for you called “All The Birds.” This song has a dreamy soundscape to it, while the vocals, sugary sweet, seem to float over the whole thing. Though it’s a little out of my normal element it turns out that this is the perfect sort of soft but edgy tune to get you through this day, wherever you may be.
