New Song from Sad Accordions

One of our favorite local acts Sad Accordions have just released a split EP with Monahans, each offering up two songs for the endeavor.  It’s a limited release being put out by new label Mt. Inadale Records, so we’re definitely happy to see a new label spring up with Austin bands in mind.  The Accordions track definitely continues to show how the band has improved upon their sound, growing into one of the most complete groups in town.  We hope you dig this track, and if you do, scramble to get yourself one of the 500 copies of the limited pressing floating around!

It really is a weekend for checking out local music isn’t it?  Tons of bands that we really dig are playing this weekend at great venues on the cheap.  Saturday at the Mohawk is one of those great places to stop by while making your weekend plans.  The lineup consists of three awesome local acts in the form of Black Books, Sad Accordions, and Royal Forest.  It’s also a special night for Sad Accordions as they are celebrating the release of their new EP The Colors and the Kill.  You’ve got some tough choices to make on which local show you end up at on Saturday night, but this one should certainly be on the short list.

New Music from Sad Accordions

All bands will have to grow in order to progress from recording to recording, and that seems to be the place that we find Austin’s Sad Accordions today.  The band is busy prepping a new EP, The Colors and the Kill, for a March 1st release date.  You can grab hand-decorated versions from the band’s at their shows this year.  Listening to the single from this six-track effort, you get the feeling that the music itself is spreading out, giving the band a bit more variety, and a whole lot more power going forward.  It’s nice to see one of our local acts push themselves, and doing so, push the whole town to rock a whole lot harder.

Above The Radar Party @ Ghost Room

monahans 1.16 smWe’re happy to announce today a little party we’re helping put on next weekend at the up and coming music venue Ghost Room.  This little shindig is hosted by Above the Radar PR and Do512 along with support from yours truly and End of an Ear Records.  The lineup features 3 solid local bands going by the names of MonahansSad Accordions and Frank Smith.  To make the event even that much more special, we will all be there to celebrate the birth year of our dear friend Michael over at Sonic Itch.  Word on the street has it that he is old as dirt so expect him to turn to dust at the stroke of midnight.  Should be good times had by all.  We’ll make sure to plug this party again a few days before the January 16th date next week.  Show time?  9pm ladies.

sadLocal bands have been dropping new music our way left and right as of late and Sad Accordions decided to get in on the fun.  We’ve really been enjoying this new track from the locals called “Sacrificial Chumpsucker Diatribe” and we wanted to share it with you.  It’s the first new material from the band in over 4 years and it doesn’t disappoint.  Enjoy.

Austin A2W: Sad Accordions

79629Sad Accordions are a band that we were tipped off on by our friend Mike over at the music blog Sonic Itch.  After giving them a few listens and the bands music turning up on our most played lists, we thought it was about time to run a feature on the group.  The story reads that Sad Accordions got their start many years ago in the metropolis of Houston, TX when founding members Ben Lance and Seth Woods began to play music together.  Soon after in 2003, more members joined on and the group relocated to our little city and have been playing local shows and growing their fan base ever since.  The sound of Sad Accordions is a little bit folky, a little bit quiet/melodic rock, and all parts beauty.  Check out a sample of the band’s sound below with Fire/Ash from debut LP A Bad Year for the Sharons. It’s one of the most complete and heart-felt albums we’ve heard in a long time.  Pick it up!
