Cowgirl Announce Cut Offs + Share Fading Lights

The ever reliable folks over at Safe Suburban Home have just announced that they’ll have another record worthy of your listening, this time from York’s Cowgirl, who’ve been mostly quiet since their self-titled LP in 2021. Today they announce Cut Offs, their new LP, dropping an accompanying single that illustrates their confidence in classic rock n’ roll styles. You get the echo of a guitar running throughout, building up the backdrop, though the band pushes forward with driving rhythm and overlapping melodies that build on the foundational level of pop rock. A straight up, no bullshit, honest rock n’ roll tune; you’ll be able to get Cut Offs on August 9th.

Stuart Pearce Shares The Bosses Are Stealing Your Days/Rules of Threes

Lest we remind you, Stuart Pearce is a band, not a singular man, and today, the band has dropped a fresh new set of tunes for your ears. You get a little different dose of styles here, with one of the tunes taking on an Ian Dury/Dan Treacy bit of playfulness, while the flipside of the single offers up something a whole lot more aggressive. Both tunes are set to appear on the band’s forthcoming record, All This Vast Overproduction, so it should be interesting to see how this all plays out when that day comes: will they go pop? will they tie into the abrasive? Both options have an upside, but we’ll have to wait until we hear more from the band’s label Safe Suburban Home.

Perennial Announce Art History

As there always is, a bunch of hype came along with this year’s not-SXSW festival. But, for a lot of the buzz, I felt those bands tended to be slight let downs. That is until I caught the first of my Perennial sets! They were phenomenal, owning the stage with energy and enthusiasm, as opposed to modern performative sets with mapped out stage dives. Today, they announce their new LP, Art History, bringing the same energy through your speakers that they offer up live. Sharp guitars cut through the speakers before the verse settles into a hurtling tour de force with thumping grooves and a locked in rhythm section. You’ll find little playful moments too, even moments to set up and rest, all before they roar back in with a ferocity that’s sure to leave a lasting impression. The new Art History record drops on June 7th via Ernest Jenning/Safe Suburban Home/Totally Real.

Autocamper Relase Blanche

Okay, so maybe I over-indulged in my Friday listening a little bit, but you’ve got to hear this fresh tune from UK outfit Autocamper. They hang these jangling guitar notes right at the front, and you know instantly that you’re going to feel the energy rushing right through you. They steady the jangle when the vocals run into the scene, layering it with a rolling bit of keys to soften the melodic nature; they don’t stop their, stacking layers of backing vocals to the tune, completely filling every inch of the tune with pop sentiment. Captain Starlet Share Self-Portrait Single

We’ve been relying upon the good folks over at Safe Suburban Home Records to bring us great pop hits from the UK over the last few years, and they’ve got a great new AA single for your ears from Captain Starlet. The lead single, “Self-Portrait” here definitely recalls a very British sound, think of Teenage Fanclub without some of the fuzzier edges; I love how the chorus changes the direction, bringing in more of a classic pop rock sound. “Running Water” is a bit lighter, almost channeling a bit of surf rock in the strum of the guitars; the vocals also take on that light mist that washes upon you while you dip your toes in the seas. Teenage Tom Petties Drop New Single

When Teenage Tom Petties dropped their debut LP it was filled with scuzzy riffs and all sorts of noise that made it a lo-fi masterpiece for Tom Brown. But, on Hotbox Daydreams, the hooks still came to chill, but there’s a whole lot more polish on these songs, as you’ll hear with “Bad Hire.” It might just be the production, but this feels like a record that has huge crossover potential, a la The Rentals. It’s definitely indie, particularly the way the backing vocals are employed in some of the verses, not to mention the fuzz swirling around. Still, I can’t help but hear the punch shining in every instant, destined to be sung along by everyone’s favorite little brother. Hotbox Daydreams is out November 3rd via Safe Suburban Home.

Teenage Tom Petties Share Stoner; Announce Hotbox Daydream

There’ve been lots of little breadcrumbs in the past few weeks leading to today’s announcement that there’s a fresh Teenage Tom Petties LP headed our way in November. Originally an outlet for Tom Brown of Rural France, the first record set the scene for fast-paced slacker rock, the sort that ripped through the speakers of your freshman dorm room. Now a full band, they’ve returned with that same ferocity, perhaps with a touch more sheen on the vocals and recording. Don’t get me wrong, the heavy-handed riffs are there, but this opening single from their new LP offers a lot more melody to listeners on its initial runs; the chorus has this calmed cool to it while you can hear the rhythm single waiting to break free from its leash and bound through the room. Hotbox Daydreams will be out on November 3rd via Safe Suburban Home/Repeating Cloud.

Brooklyn band the Planes are tearing up the kind of pop rock old punks like myself can really dive into, hitting all the melodic notes while still bringing just enough of an edge to make us still feel cool. Drums kick this song off and the guitars and vocals immediately rush in; they seem to be working against each other, with the vocals cresting through this hazy pop vibe as the guitar notes jangle furiously, trying to push the pace the whole time. If you were trying to find that cool edge, wait until the solo hits, then you’ll hear heavy riffs cutting right through a la Teenage Fanclub; I love the way the guitar stabs build the tension up immediately following that moment. New Split Screen EP from Walk Home Drunk & Comite Balneaire

Two of my absolute favorite labels as of late, Hidden Bay Records/Safe Suburban Home, have teamed up to bring us a new Split Screen EP, with songs from both Walk Home Drunk and Comite Balneaire. For their part, Walk Home Drunk offers up this gentle tease in the verses; a steady beat and snuggling vocals walk you right into the chorus where the song opens up and gets a bit fuzzy with these guitar lines that pop and skitter. On the other side, you get Comite Balneaire creating this dense realm for what seems like a post-punk rainstorm; the guitars are heavy, almost feeling like sheets of melodic rain falling upon you at all times. Both tracks might have some sonic simlarities, which makes sense considering the two projects are solo monikers for members of Docks/No Drama. Anyways, Split Screen EP will be out June 2nd.
