New 7″ From Andrew St. James

After many months of much hard work from myself and several others, I’m elated today to bring you news of our upcoming 7″ single from young gun Andrew St. James. Now I’ve been a fan of Andrew for quite awhile so this project is something that means a whole lot to me. As his first release on vinyl, Andrew has hand picked this track, “You’ll be Fine”, to be featured as the A-side with “Red Hair Green Eyes” as B-side. “You’ll be Fine” is a perfect example of Andrew’s superb songwriting skills similar to greats like Tallest Man or Dylan. This is surely a kick off to a promising and bright career as a top up and coming singer songwriter. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we’ll bring you the sweet B-side soon.

Head over to bandcamp right now to pre-order the new 7″ single releasing on March 2nd. It’s a gem.

Pop Psych from Battlehooch

battlehoochWhat do you get when you take psych and blend it with elements of late 90s indie rock? I think your answer is here with Battlehooch and the band’s new single. It’s like this weird blend of Grandaddy and Muse (maybe even Rooney) mashed up together, then drizzled with a little dosage of psychedelic heritage via harmonicaflourishes here and there. It might possibly be the most accessible psychedelic-tinted track. File this track as another feature in the band’s growing repertoire of well-crafted hits for their clamoring fans.

Noisy Pop from Violent Change

vc3I have no idea how I stumbled upon this great tune from Violent Change, but I’m so glad I did! It’s this brilliant piece of noisy pop, falling some place where the worlds of Royal Headache and GBV crash. You’ll hear appropriate bits of fuzz through your speakers, but beneath it lurks this elegant melody that’s simply undeniable. I think you’re going to be stuck listening to this track all day long, as I know I can’t get enough of it. This is our first listen to the band’s new piece from their record, VC3, which is being released by Melters on September 16th. Dammit this song is amazing.

Watch the New Video from Plush

I was really bummed when The Shes called it quits, but I’ve beenexcited by the new project formed out of the ashes, Plush. The band is working withFather Daughter Records, and this new video sets up the scene for a continuation of great sounds. For most part, the song walks that line of ethereal dream pop, floating along casually. But, as the song furthers itself, you’ll hear some sonic exploration, such as extra distortion and crashing percussive elements. The band employs all sorts of sounds on their recent Please EP…which is available now. Also, look for the band to do a run down the East Coast starting this week.

New Swinging Single From Nick Waterhouse

unnamedThose in the mood for a little throwback, doo wop style pop music on this Wednesday should check out this new single entitled “It’s Time” from San Francisco based Nick Waterhouse. You’ll hear many genre elementshere like soul, jazz, and r&b all coming together nicely to create a powerful bit of retro pop music. I could see Nick headlining a stage at ACL here pretty soon if he keeps this up.

Waterhouse will release Never Twice on September 30th via Innovative Leisure.

Banger From Happy Diving

unnamed (3)As many of us are likely struggling to get moving today after too much fun yesterday, this new single from San Francisco’s Happy Diving might be the perfect hangover cure. Yeah “Holy Ground” may start off as a sort of slacker rock tune, but hold tight, the true wall of guitars comes in pretty quick. The meandering feel, with that slow build into awesomeness is sure to perk up your Tuesday. It’s done it for me.

Electric Soul Unity will drop on August 19th via Topshelf Records.

Track Premiere: Male Gaze

MaleGazePRPhoto1.165438Male Gaze is a San Francisco based band we’ve talked about on this here website several times in the past and I know Nathan and myself have grown to admire them over the last year or so. With our fandom also comes a strong desire to share their songs with the world and spread the good word. Today I’m excited to do exactly that with this brand new single premiering here today entitled “Bad Omens”. This one is a perfect way to kick off your weekend in a frantic and energetic way. Seriously, this band seems to play at such a fast pace but also play everything with perfect timing and superb musicianship. Enjoy the new single below.

Male Gaze will release King Leer via Castle Face Records on June 17th.

Breezy Number From Sandy’s

Sandys_photo_Nick_AivesSan Francisco based songwriter Alexi Glickman has long been in the music game, but mostly as a member of critically acclaimed group The Boticellis.  Since the disbanding of that group, Glickman has branched out on his own with a solo project going by the name Sandy’s.  Serving as a preview of his new material is this mesmerizing new single called “Consolidated Identity”.  It’s a lovely and breezy pop tune complete with jangly guitars and quiet vocals best suited for cool afternoons sitting on your front porch.

Sandy’s new Prom EP will drop on July 24th.

More Expansive Pop from Cats of Transnistria

transcatsIt’s difficult to capture the attention of modern listeners, especially with shorter attention spans and what not.  That being said, I beg you to really spend some time with the latest from Cats of Transnistria.  The song below changes landscapes from within the song, moving through gentle stages towards into more discordant moments, and then a return.  Their Away EP has been nothing if not captivating, allowing me to really sink into my listening experience as I indulge in this version of constructionist pop music; the EP is out next week from Soliti.  You can also check out the accompanying VIDEO.

Incredible Track From Andrew St. James

10007473_695907583820916_4119307996298473043_nWhile surfing around the net today looking for some tunes to share, I came across one of those rare songs that makes me stop and play it again, and then again… This track is called “Tapes” and is brought to us by a young man by the name of Andrew St. James.  When I first hit play, his take on songwriting really reminded me of some sort of weird combo between Dylan, Tallest Man on Earth, and even a bit of Ryan Adams.  We’re treated mostly to just a quickly strummed guitar as we’re lead through a wandering tune about love and love lost.  ASJ has a lot to say, so I suggest you start paying attention to this young man (he’s only 19).

Pick up new album, The Shakes, on October 28th.
