Rosie Tucker Drops Paperclip Maximizer

When I first got into Rosie Tucker, there was something insanely catchy about the way they played with the vocal notes in their songwriting. A few years later, I feel like “Paper Maximizer” immediately puts that on display; there is a dynamism to each note, always falling between sharp and playful, which inevitably ties my joy to their work. That doesn’t even get me started on the wordplay and craft; I even learned about “paperclip maximizer,” which in short, discusses the possible dangers of AI and the end of humanity. Learning and catchy, and all of it leading me to think that you’ll be singing along to every track on Utopia Now…out March 22nd via Sentimental Records.

Rosie Tucker Shares All My Exes Live in Vortexes

Something uniquely charming always comes to mind whenever I get news about Rosie Tucker. They’ve got this knack for humorous takes on pop culture, whilst still making everything political feel personal (which is no small feat!). Far too often I get stuck on their vocal delivery; it hangs the hooks in all the right spots, crashing down emphatically and completely making me melt. This go round, while they bring about those same vocals, there’s this smashing pop rock vibe to the songwriting, not unlike acts like the Beths or Weakened Friends, delivering knockout blows of dynamic pop rock. The bonus is that this announcement comes with news of Utopia Now, the new LP dropping on Sentimental Records on March 22nd.

New Rosie Tucker Single + Austin Show

This one time, I had less than 48 hours to book a show at Red 7 here in Austin during SXSW; I somehow managed to grab Deeper and Boogarins and…Rosie Tucker. Their willingness to make it work, their charming set and their continued growth as a songwriting machine has made me an avowed fan, and now we can all revel in a new tune. As I listen to this track, having spent a lot of time with their previous records, I can’t help but notice how maybe the punch gets turned down in the mix on the front half of the tune, waiting to deliver this explosive drive that drags the song to a close. And, if you’re a fan, Rosie Tucker will be out on the road for a few dates, including an Austin date on November 16th at Mohawk. New song is available courtesy of Sentimental Records.
