Last Week’s Jams – (9.11 – 9.15)

It seems weird to say, but last week was the first time in a long time where I was able to find every song we covered on all the DSPs! Does this mean I’ve gone mainstream? Anyways, we had a few premieres running from the likes of Class and Alijca-Pop, so be sure to check those jams out.. And, as per usual, dipped our toes in the Austin pond, with new stuff from Holy Wire and the stream of Will Johnson‘s new LP. Oh, and we made sure we had as much Oceanic coverage as possible, throwing our weight behind Soft Covers, Native Cats, The Small Intestines and Exek! Give a listen to the singles below!

Shiny Darkly Share New Single

I’ve really been into the work of Shiny Darkly this morning. They offer up something that kind of seems like it’s post-punk-adjacent. You can hear the construction playing in those sort of industrial spaces, using those cold, angular guitar riffs to knife through it all. Still, they use a lot of the negative space to allow things to move and digress in a different fashion, letting the vocals creep along in the background, almost encircling those fiery riffs running up front. There’s just something cavernous in their construction that has me blindly wondering deep into that tunnel, completely immersed in their sound. You’ll get this track on their II EP, out November 24th.

Thoughtful Post-Punk from Shiny Darkly

Danish outfit Shiny Darkly most recently dropped their Bronze LP, but as of today, they’ve got something that seems most fitting of their band name. They’ve employed Sharin Foo of the Raveonettes to join in on the main vocal role in their new track; they craft this mesmerizing post-punk soundscape that draws in the listener rather than frighten them with squalls of beautiful guitars. The guitars are clean, working over what sounds like a digital drum loop; the vocals weave themselves around the negative space, creeping in with a slight curled pop billow during the chorus. A nice way to join in on your Monday, don’t ya think? This track will appear on the Crunchy Frog 25th Anniversary Compilation.
