This is fine.
There are just some bands that you’re going to fawn over, so I’m always glad when I get a chance to see Terry Malts. It didn’t hurt that they had some great local acts supporting them before their set, which made for an all-around enjoyable night for us. Staying up late on a school night, well worth it.

I’m going to beg you to come to this show. I absolutely love the Terry Malts and their no bullshit live shows. They’ve come through town before, but their return to Austin comes on the heels of their latest release, Nobody Realizes This is Nowhere (Slumberland Records). It’s just another excellent record that deserves a huge audience, so be part of that on Thursday night. If you play your cards right, you’ll also be treated to excellent sets by locals New Arrows and Shivery Shakes (who just finished recording their own LP!) Great bands deserve great audiences so they can put on great shows…come be part of it.

I’m really happy for Shivery Shakes, as they just completed the kickstarter funding to record their new tunes on an upcoming LP. Â With that in mind, you’ll have the chance to check out the boys play some of these new tracks when they come into the Mohawk this Tuesday evening; I’m sure they’ll throw out some of the classics too. Â Joining them on the night will be Bitter Birds and The Shones, so you’ll have the chance to see other rad acts. Tickets are only $6 at the door, with the show starting around 10 PM. Â Get there early and enjoy friendly service and dangerous libations from our friends at Mohawk.

Hardly Sound is trying to document things going on in Texas, highlighting and profiling musicians and telling some stories. Second best music show on PBS? Perhaps. It is well shot and has featured a few ATH favorites already like The Bad Lovers and Royal Forest. Support the local projects, right?
This project is a labor of love, self-funded for the most part. Randy Reynolds and Christopher Kim want to step up their game this season and are looking for a little help. Head here to check out the options for supporting, including one very cool t-shirt design thumbnailed as the story pic.

Well, our city had made us proud once this week, and it’s happening once again as Mayor Lee Leffingwell is naming today Shivery Shakes Day, in honor of our friend William and his band. Â This is a great thing, as William has been working in the Austin scene for several years; first as The Bubbles and more recently with Shivery Shakes. Â Plus, the band has just opened up a kickstarter to help fund the recording of their new album. Â You can help the group out by donating a dollar or more right HERE. If you’ve looked at the upcoming shows listing for Austin, April is about to get really crazy ya’ll, so why not start things off right by spending an evening with some of the best local bands Austin has to offer.  We’ve raved about all of these bands for a long time, and I know that at least three of the four acts are working on new albums/singles, so you’re bound to hear some fresh tunes.  Shivery Shakes are tighter than ever. Tiger Waves, I love them. She Sir make smart pop that I adore. Shrines I haven’t seen, but to be on this bill, you know they’re rad.  Seriously everyone, it’s a cheap show, so come out and support local music. Here’s some jams from the Shakes, the Waves and the Sir in case you needed convincing.
Saturday. End of Free Week 2013…
The wife and I decided to hang out at the friendly confines for The Plastic Habits, Letting Up Despite Great Faults and Shivery Shakes, but took advantage of the SxSW atmosphere to pop over to Red7 to catch up with Tiger Waves.

Â Some of our favorite acts in town are taking to the stage, so make sure you get a chance to get out there to check these bands bands out. I’ve been waiting to make this announcement since we first began planning Photo Pop 2012, which takes place Friday, November 9th. Â As a native Austinite I realize how important the community aspect of the local music scene is, so I wanted to highlight some of our favorite photographers who work their tails off to bring you the best footage of our local scene. Â Photographers Rick Kern, Brian Gray, Tim Griffin, Pooneh Ghana, Randy Cremean and Gary Miller will be displaying and SELLING prints of their favorite photography shot here in Austin. Â A portion of those proceeds will go to HAAM. Â But, that’s not the end of it. Â Since the photography wouldn’t go down without the rock, we’re putting on a show afterwards with some of our favorite local bands: Gender Infiniti, Low Times, Tiger Waves, Shivery Shakes and Grape Street. Â It’s a chance to enjoy some incredible photography (and get your hands on some good prints) plus stay and enjoy the rock n’ roll. Or you can choose one or the other, just be sure to support the local scene; it’s what makes it great. Here’s a tune from one of the bands, Tiger Waves.
