Well, you’ve only got a few days left before 2015 kicks into gear, so why not join us and our friends to really make your night a bang? We’re helping host a rad night of music and good times at Cheer Up Charlies with our friends at SOTO, OVRLD and No Play Music. There’s going to be tons of great bands: Mom Jeans, Sphynx, Sour Notes, Silk Rodeo, Grape St., Lowin and A Sinclair…so basically, you’ve got all the reasons right there! But…there will also be various other activities like a midnight balloon drop and free puppies. Party time starts at 7 PM, and it’s only $5! You can guarantee entry by grabbing tickets HERE. Hope to see you out, and if not, have a safe night folks…we’ll all hang more in 2015.
You ever notice how a bunch of tours either kick off or finish up in Austin? In the case of Caribou, they were finishing up a successful run out in support of the latest effort Our Love. The bummer about being the last stop, no vinyl at the merch table. The best part, whoa hooollly shit is the band tight. Let me get this out of the way, this was one of the best live performances of “electronic” music I have ever seen. Dan Snaith and his team of musicians have found a way to make those key elements, the live drum and overlayed organic pieces of the recorded material, present in the live show. Flutes to extra percussion to ringing guitar licks, the material comes to life that then absorbs the crowd into a hypnotic tunnel.
I feel so jealous of the people in Toronto that get that homecoming show.

What’s better than a free show at one of Austin’s best venues? A free show with three incredible electronic bands, and that’s precisely what you’ll get if you head out to Mohawk tonight. First up you’ll get Silk Rodeo; they offer a dark bit of electronica with an ability to build their sound to swelling heights of pop delight. Then, there’s Whiite Walls; this is perhaps one of Austin’s biggest rising electronic based stars, though they play with a full-on band, making their sets remarkable. Closing the night will be Love Inks, who affirmed their place in the local music scene with last year’s Generation Club. I hear they’re working on brand new tunes, so you might get a set full of new tracks for your ears. In the end, it’s a great local bill, and one you’ll be sore about if you don’t take advantage of this FREE SHOW.

I love nights when I can see a bunch of bands, SxSW style, bouncing back and forth between venues to be able to see acts we have talked about here, but not yet seen live and still manage to check out the headliners we dig. Last Thursday was one such night. We had the Attendance Records Benefit at The Mohawk that featured ATH local favorites Knifight and a show at Red7 headlined by Daughn Gibson that included fresh locals Silk Rodeo in an opening slot.
In total, pics of four bands, a few whiskeys, plenty of friends and I get to say I did it “for the kids”. Well, half of it, anyway. Click through for random thoughts and plenty of pics…

The last time I caught Prince Rama in town, I was mesmerized by their performance, so it goes without saying that you should take it upon yourself to catch such an incredible show. But, more importantly, there are a slew of local Austin acts kicking things off, such as Sleep Over and Technicolor Hearts. More importantly, we’ll all be treated to the debut of new Austin band, Silk Rodeo. A member of the live act has called the music “smooth wave” and promised lasers! You don’t want to miss that. You can catch a video of the band’s single, “All Yr Own” right HERE. Show up early, support the locals, and tip the bartenders; it’s going to be a special night from all the acts.
