It’s still rather early in the year to start talking about best records of the year and what not, but as we’re midway through 2014, every one is doing it…so why not join in the fun. But, with this in mind, remember that these lists are arbitrary, and if anything, pretty meaningless in the long run; you never know if your thoughts will change in six months…and really, they’re just like, our opinions man. We’ll have two sections…one for national albums and another section of Austin albums released up to this point in 2014. Read more
Rarely do you get to start off your week with such a bad ass show, but I’m really excited for tonight’s gig over at Holy Mountain. You’ve got a couple of solid openers in Costumes and Gang Sign, but there’s also one of the most overlooked bands of the year jamming strong, Solids. Their album Blame Confusion is this boisterous bombast, and I highly encourage you to get out now and get yourself a copy of it. Then the night gets closed out by Michigan’s Pity Sex, who offer up a shoe gaze-y version of rock n’ roll; they’ve got the ability to go loud, or pull back with a little bit more melody. This is the perfect way to kick-start your week, and lose a little hearing.
AMENDMENT: Pity Sex have had to cancel their slot due to traveling issues. So now Solids will headline![audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/02-Off-White.mp3]

If you haven’t listened to the latest album by Montreal’s Solids, then you’re definitely missing out. Anyone looking for a little rock n’ roll in their life should spend a little time with Blame Confusion…it’s only been out for a few weeks. We wanted to reach out to the band before they made their way into town for SXSW, and here’s what they had to say.
I pressed play on this tune, and immediately I was hooked. If you love the sound of distorted guitars forcefully making their presence felt in your ears, then it’ll take you about ten seconds to fall in love with this tune from Solids. But, despite a fuzzy bit of guitar noise, you’ll find a warmth hiding beneath the number, making it a stellar tune to kick off your week. The duo will be releasing their debut, Blame Confusion, on February 18th via Fat Possum, followed by a tour that includes some tour dates in our home for SXSW. Trust me on this one; it’s a gem.
