Telephone Romeo Announces Self-Titled LP

It’s always great to open up a barrage of emails and find one from our friends over in Finland alerting us to new music on their end, like Telephone Romeo. The project is one that’s been bubbling in the Helsinki scene for a bit, working out sounds and textures and finding its way; that day has come to a head with a new single and an announcement of an LP! I liked the guitar sounds here, reminiscent of that last Strokes record, which I admittedly love; it’s an angular vibe rooted in the breadcrumbs of new wave. Here, however, the track has this steadied croon to it, embracing the melodic center of this tootsie roll pop number. Telephone Romeo will be out on June 5th via Soliti Music.

Ghosts on TV Share CCTV Video

Finnish outfit Ghosts on TV have been banging about for nearly a decade, and they’ve just announced a brand new record slated for release this May titled Iridescent. Our first preview at the forthcoming release has them bordering between post rock and chamber folk, using these wide brushstrokes to create this contemplative musicscape that just leaves you with this humbling sense of awe. For instance, as I ran through the single, there was something dynamic in the arrangement, around the 3:30 mark; you get this dissonant guitar ambiance in the distance, but it’s layered with a light strum and a twinkling bit of piano, and in that, it’s as if the whole world stops just for that moment. Admittedly, the song’s on the long-side for my usual tastes, but it feels like this beautiful puzzle that rewards my ears, and every few seconds something new is revealed. It’s a magical journey brought to you by the band and their label, Soliti Music.

The New Tigers Return

I’m a big fan of Finnish outfit The New Tigers, and they’ve mostly been quiet since the release of their Do Xao LP back in 2018, with the rare single here and there. Today, they’re back with a new single and news that a new LP will be out in 2026. On today’s singles, they embrace a lighter side of guitar pop, though they’re careful to include a driving enthusiasm that bleeds through the distorted riff work. They fill the spaces in between with drifting melodies and charm that make it difficult to pull away from, as if you’d even want to! The second of the tunes is a really beautiful ballad, so I hope you’ll take the time to invest in listening to the group’s latest offerings; look for the new LP via Soliti in the new year!

Longing Louisa Shares Cabin Talk

One of my favorite things about befriending folks from labels all over the world is being introduced to unique artists like Finland’s Longing Louisa. Initially, the draw is singer Reeta Hotti’s voice, toying with these dynamic changes in pitch and tone, classic pop at moments and more peculiar in spaces. Beneath her voice are little ornate flourishes of texture, almost like the song’s tip-toeing through sunny sands; you can feel the gentle warmth right beneath when listening to this track. If you’re looking for some quiet respite in a world gone mad, maybe you need some “Cabin Talk.” This tune appears on the forthcoming record Waterphile record, which drops on November 7th via Soliti.

Juppe Announces Fun! And How to Have It

If you are in the mood for opening your day with some retro-infused pop, might we reintroduce you to Finnish artist Juppe, who just announced a brand new record today. Stylistically, you might find some similarities to acts like Tunde Adebimpe or Blood Orange, playing a brand of pop that’s rooted in deep house grooves and remnants of classic soul. There’s little nuanced guitars and samples that lift the track beyond the basics and turns it into this huge groovy tune that you’re going to want to drop right into your weekend playlist. Fun! And How to Have It is out September 19th via Soliti.

Pleased to Meet You: Spotless Souls

Fresh off of celebrating their Europa League triumph, our friends over at Soliti Music have just picked up a new artist to keep our eyes on: Spotless Souls. Their debut single is out today, and it drops a hint that not all dream pop should be treated equally, or elegantly. This Finnish quartet have adopted the cavernous sound on the genre, but instead of overflowing the front of the mix with noise, they’ve pulled back a bit, letting vocalist Alina take the spotlight. Don’t get me wrong, her vocals operate in the dreamy category, but by letting the chime of the guitars sit behind her, there’s a larger focus on the siren-esque performance. Look for more from the group in the near future!

Juppe Drops Woozy Single

We felt like you needed something with a bobbing bass line to kick off your morning, and what better than this brand new single from Finland’s Juppe! You’ll hear the groove as soon as you press go, and with that, Juppe bobs and weaves in between the notes, letting his voice crest and fall to maximize the playfulness. Adding to that is this little playful bit of guitar stabs that accents all the poppy little notes that make our day, which according to the artists might have been more out of necessity, as the guitar is rumored to have been down to its last few strings. This tune will get stuck in your head courtesy of Soliti Music.

We’ve been sitting on the sidelines and watching as Finnish outfit Cats of Transnistria prepare us for their new album. Today, they offer one final glimpse before we get to immerse ourselves in the cavernous realm they’ve built. Like the cloudy video, the song greets us with a heavy kick on the drums and a shroud of distorted guitar work, gently moving into the background as the vocals break through into their own angelic expo. Once the voice begins to take control, you can hear many of the nuanced details being put into play, from synthesized beats to harrowing wails of feedback, all of it building this huge composition. It’s slowcore, but with with much more noise! They release IV on March 21st via Soliti Music.
