We are in full on SXSW preparation mode at this point ladies and gentlemen! This is officially your last weekend before things really start to go down next week with great tech, education and film things going on around town. Then we go full force into music week right after that. GET READY. Continuing our SXSW interview series today is another one from the lads in Beatenberg. Hit the jump for all the deets.
Looks like my focus this morning is on keeping you pretty sedate, at least so far as things are shaping up here. I stumbled across this beautiful track from South African artists Chantel Van T, who also fronts the group Diamond Thug. Let’s be real here though…if you don’t hear the incredible similarities to the much adored Hope Sandoval, I got nothing for you. Chantel drapes her syllables in the same dramatic fashion; I love that forlorn guitar in the distance too, filling the bucket with every drop of emotion possible. This tune features on the forthcoming solo debut Nicalochan.
Sometimes a song doesn’t quite do it for you on first listen, but then catches your ear more and more with each play. Right now this new one called “Used to be Cool” from L.A. based artist Prism Tats is one of those songs. It has a very old school feel to it with rocking guitars and a very anthemic, loud feel. I find myself wanting to get up and dance along, and I don’t dance…

If you love soccer (football) or hate it; you have to admit that every four years “Football (Soccer) Fever” hits our shores. The excitement level builds around water coolers across the country, if only to die down after (American) football season starts again. This short lived, broad sweeping enthusiasm is elevated providing the Yanks have some positive results, and hopefully raising a few jaded eyebrows in the process. If you don’t pay attention, you may not know that our boys in the good ol’ Red, White, and Blue pulled off quite a feat last Wednesday with some late heroics. I have been playing “The Beautiful Game” my whole life and continue to play now, so I am pumped to the max leading up to this weekend’s huge knockout match.
