Stereogum Has the Hits – Violens and Crocodiles

We’re a small site, so we don’t always get the hits as soon as everyone else.  Normally, I wouldn’t post everything, as you can clearly go to Stereogum, but I absolutely am loving these two tracks.  The first one comes from Violens, one of our favorites.  The band’s always writing tracks it seems, and they’ve apparently got True set to see release in May on Slumberland Records.  Then there’s Crocodiles, who’ve refined their sound, bringing about this ridiculously awesome track.  The group will release Endless Flowers on June 4th, and I hope it all sounds like the track below. Check out both these tracks, as they’re worth your time, and tell us which one’s better!

More New Music from Hospitality

I can’t tell you how excited we are for this Hospitality record.  When we first run their track “Friends of Friends,” RayRay and I were so excited, that we both wanted to post it, almost letting us post it twice.  So yesterday when Stereogum ran the second single from the group’s upcomingself-titled album, I got super stoked all over again.  Merge Records is going to put it out on January 31st, and it just can’t get here soon enough.  This band is clever and whimsical, but there’s definitely a lush pop quality to the music they’re creating.   It’s just a simple formula, but the perfect execution makes it perfect for what any music listener looks for in a hit. Try the new track out.

New Track from Princeton

It seems like forever since I’ve heard anything about new music from Princeton.  But, bands have lives too, and I suppose they got busy.  Luckily, Stereogum reported today that the band will be releasing a new 7″ featuring tracks “To the Alps” and “The Electrician” March 29th. You’ll definitely find some nice melodic shifts in this song, all going with that steady, yet smooth vocal.  Listen carefully and you’ll see some nice horn arrangements kicking in the background, as the band continue to experiment with ways to flesh out their sound.  It’s never a bad day to get a track from these guys.

Against Me! on Daytrotter (+ New Song)

You all know we’re Against Me! fans from way back, so we were excited today when Daytrotter ran a few unreleased tracks from the band, not to mention a couple of songs off the band’s new album, White Crosses, which comes out on June 8th.  Then, Stereogum ran the album’s title track today as well, so if you’re in the mood from some rock, then you should definitely get yourself a look at both posts for today.  Personally, nostalgia will always make me go back to As The Eternal Cowboy, but White Crosses has some pretty solid tracks here, and you know the band will never cease to rock live.

New Tunes from Dominant Legs

dominantlegsWe first caught wind of Dominant Legs by way of Stereogum a few weeks back.  Any allusion to Belle and Sebastian will catch my eye! Still, this new tune isn’t quite the twee pop one expected, but it’s more summery, as if there is a lighter air to the crafty writing here. You decide.

New Tuns from The Uglysuit

uglyI know that being from Austin, we’re supposed to ignore all things Oklahoma, but you can’t really ignore great music, regardless of local mores.  So, now that Stereogum has thrown up a new tune from an unreleased EP by The Uglysuit, we had to jump on it.  This tune is a lot quieter than their work in the past, but it has an ornate quality, which definitely brings pleasure to the ears of us here at ATH.

New Tunes from Awesome New Republic

awesomenewrepublicKnowing very little about Awesome New Republic, I have to admit, I’m going to be scouring the Internet for all the latest on this group.  Their song, “Florida,” an homage of sorts to their home state has been kicking around in my head all day long, so I figured I should share it with you. According to the kids over at Stereogum, the EP from which this song comes, Rational Geographic II, is up for free on the group’s web site.

New Music From Elvis Perkins

Over the holidays we told you about some new tunes Elvis Perkins in Deerland had streaming on their website.  Now we have an MP3 of one of those tracks we found over on Stereogum today.  This new song is called “Shampoo” and will appear on new album Elvis Perkins in Deerland out March 10th on XL Recordings.  Sounds like something that would fit in pretty nicely with stuff from Mr. Perkins’ 2007 album Ash Wednesday.

New Applessed Cast

Not too long ago, we gave you a new demo by The Applessed Cast entitled “Road West”.  Today we found another new song by the band over on Stereogum going by the name of “Raise the Sails”.  Both of these songs are set to appear on the band’s latest album Sagarmatha which is due out on 2/17 via The Militia Group.  The Lawrence boys are also embarking on their first tour in quite some time with a planned stop at Austin’s own Mohawk.  Check the dates on their myspace page.  ATH couldn’t be happier that you guys didn’t call it quits.
