Dadabe Share Paz Single

Having been mostly quiet since their debut EP, Spain’s Dadabe have dropped a couple of rad singles for the world to taste this past month, with me just now catching the latest. I’m pretty sure anyone who loved Pavement will immediately feel at home with this new single; it has that slacker style (or so they called it), offering burning riffs and a relaxed vocal feel through the verses. But, when that does switch in the chorus, there’s this brightness that bursts through, shimmering with promise. Then, as if they had more to prove, they close it down with a minute of jam, hoping to keep you coming back; I know I will.

Echo Ladies Share Fabrik

After being out and away from the Internet, I couldn’t help but slide right back to the swing of things…and what better way than with this killer track from Malmo’s Echo Ladies. Like a lot of the Scandinavian acts, the band brings about this punishing darkness, driving synths that seem rooted in dark house music; think of acts like Lust for Youth for instance. About 20 seconds in, a synth line washes in with this playful bit of pop structure, opening the song for Matilda’s voice to swirl atop the driving rhythm. I love the way the band still leave space, letting this elegance hang out in the air for a bit before sliding right back into it. Echo Ladies will release Lillies on September 6th via Rama Lama Records.

Snooper Drop Running Video

As I ease back into consistent posting here, it only makes sense that I drop in with this brand new Snooper video. We’ve previously covered the group’s singles from their forthcoming LP, and while those pieces have been short and frantic, this new single allows for the band to build on their sound, expanding the sound as guitars feud and criss-cross, all while the rhythm section drives the listener forward. Their knack for tying in the artistic side to their sound also serves the band well here, with the video illustrating just how much attention they pay to every little detail. Super Snooper drops this Friday via Third Man Records.

Daiistar Announce Debut LP

To be quite honest, the whole reemergence of psychedelia has worn a little thin; I mean, it’s such a specific sound, it’s got to have incredible songwriting to really stay the test of time. But, Austin’s Daiistar are flirting with mixing in other elements, especially when you turn on the opening seconds of their new “Star Starter” single; it takes on a bit of that old-school neo-psychedelia, adding an element that almost feels like its hitting on those Happy Mondays notes. Don’t worry though, there’s still tons of fuzz and squalling guitars, but that rhythm section gives it this dancefloor feel that illustrates the group pushing the expectations of Austin’s psych scene. The group will release Good Time, their debut, via Fuzz Club this September.

Small Intestines Prep Hide in Time LP

Another day in bloggerville with another single coming from Australia that I’m really enjoying; it’s coming courtesy of Meritorio Records/Lost & Lonesome, too! Small Intestines are a new act on my radar (though w/ members of Chook Race), but the pacing and twisting of this track is sublime. You get a good 35 seconds of nice clean guitar pop before the band bring in the vocals; they’re operating with dual voices overlapping, which, for some reason, is always best executed when its done by the Aussies. While the track might seem sated, it takes on the song title’s mentality, turning from a solid trot into a nice bit of a hurried horse riding gallop; it’s a nice twist that keeps you coming back to press play. They’ll be releasing Hide in Time this September.

Grrrl Gang Share Rude Awakening Video

It seems fairy impressive that Indonesian pop rockers Grrrl Gang are just dropping their debut LP this September, especially when you listen to this fresh single. There’s something in the songwriting that feels years beyond a debut, with the guitars delivering the hooks in all the right spots, allowing the vocals to double down there, especially when they hit the chorus. They add in little bits of flare too, just to keep it extra interesting, like the background shouts in that aforementioned chorus. Honestly, they’re coming out of the gates sounding like a band on par with acts like the Beths or Alvvays, which is a pretty solid platform to stand upon. Their album, Spunky!, arrives on September 22nd via Trapped Animal/Kill Rock Stars.

Life Strike Share Whip Around Track

I love when I fall for a track that completely changes direction from earlier singles, like the newest tune from Life Strike. “Downwinders” and “Giving up the Ghost” both had this combination of punk urgency and jangling hooks, but “Whip Around” has this mood that seems like a meeting place between REM and the Replacements. There’s this maturity and use of patience in the development of the song’s space, allowing for the punch in each verse to really blow back on the listener. Whereas those early hits felt urgent, this one feels a touch more lax, like sitting on the beach waiting for the sea spray to wash across you. Peak Dystopia hits on July 14th via Bobo Integral.

Melenas Drop Dos Pasajeros Video

I am ready to admit that the new stuff coming out on this new Melenas LP is fucking marvelous. Their latest single begins with these synthesized beats creating this giant open space that slowly unfolds as more texture is built into the track. Vocals enter the foray, but their passive calm almost feels like an added layer of melody being built; it’s like a synthetic cake of pop goodness, sugary in all the right spots. I can easily see where fans of Broadcast would find this their favorite new place to hang out, so if that sounds like you, you’re going to want to grab Ahora, which comes out on September 29th via Trouble in Mind Records.

Fort Not Release Tell Me Nothing Single

The pending release from Fort Not is high on my list of anticipated albums coming our way in July; I’ve loved their approach to songwriting, taking on all sorts of approaches in their interpretation of guitar pop. Their latest single hits me somewhere in the realm of the Clean and Hunx; it has a distinctive vibe that feels supremely haphazard and DIY, but even in that, you can’t deny the joy that hits you when it comes through your speakers. Playful and carefree, with perfect execution and little touches (see 2:20 mark) that elevate the tune. Depressed for Success is going to hit on July 7th via Meritorio Records.

The Clientele Share Claire’s Not Real

I will likely despise the weather in July down here in Texas, but I won’t have to hate on all the great albums, as the Clientele will drop their much anticipated I Am Not There Anymore. Their latest single begins with this sort of bossanova influenced bit of jazz, dripping with this sort of lounge mentality; it’s definitely a further sign that their still growing their sound, years down the road. Of course Alasdair lets his vocals rain down through your speakers, the tune takes on that familiar territory and I’m here to swoon. You can grab the new record on July 28th from Merge Records.
