Air Devi Share Ashrita Single

After sharing the last single from Philly’s Air Devi, seems like there’s no reason to back down when they’re writing great pop rock hits like “Ashrita.” While the song comes from a bit of heartbreak and disappointment in a fellow male musician (no surprise!), Devi Majeske turned disillusionment into a celebration of other artists who Devi admires for their own talents. I love the bite and growl that rocks in around the 2 minute mark, taking the pop hooks and really letting the angst flow through the speakers. As you’ll hear, there’s a bit of sweetness in the licks and melody, but a big old punch that definitely gives Air Devi the perfect bite to grab your ears!

Robert Sotelo Announces Indoors LP + Shares Caught in a Shape

Last year’s Celebrant LP from Robert Sotelo was a magnificent collection of tunes, and today we have news that there’s a companion album ready for release this September via Upset the Rhythm. Our first sample has a nice synth driven narration, driving the tune in this light-hearted electronic world, washed with warm colors that coat the robotic nature. Take that touch, mix it with the melodic rise and fall of the vocals, and find that you’re given an electronic jam that feels more organic than mechanistic. Things feel buoyant and filled with the promise of another brilliant release on the books; Indoors will be out on September 16th.

Strawberry Generation Share Miss Me

Strawberry Generation‘s latest single is a track that definitely has this nice wash of indiepop, spun with a bit of wistful daydreaming. That comes through in the lyrics and song title, but you can feel it in the song too. Jangling guitars are present, but they seem pleasantly dulled, like they don’t want to wake the ghosts of the past, allowing for the rest of the track to kind of operate like this warm cloak that hides the dreaminess in favor of this pop obviousness. It’s charming and warm, and makes me think of stepping into the warmth of your house on a crisp Winter day. Not sure on release plans, but let’s hope the duo have more up their sleeve.

Scout Gillett Shares Slow Dancin

You’ve got your Sharons and Angels, but now, we’ve got Scout Gillett, and personally, I’m loving this new single, if only for its refreshing nature. Immediately, the pulse of the track sets the tone, which is striking, considering Scout wrote the tune initially as a country ballad, but mixed it up in the studio recording. Vocally, this is all over the place, and I mean that as an endearing quality. It’s got this soft spoken curl to it, but then it can just as quickly turn and burst into this incendiary soaring performance (that reminds me of Emily from Dehd, though I know it’ll get some Angel comparisons). It’s nice to have a new little twist in the mix here. No Roof No Floor is out on 10/28 via Captured Tracks.

Jim Nothing Share Fall Back Down

Our friends over at Meritorio Records consistently unearth great acts and bring them to my attention, like New Zealand’s Jim Nothing. The band play just on the edges of modern jangle pop, perhaps mellowed on the edges to have a softer feel to the natural bounce. This fits perfect into the style, as the vocals are delivered in that manner that’s just above spoken word, steady and just hinting at the melody; that, of course, gets a little aid by the sped up jangle of the guitar when necessary. In the Marigolds is destined to win you over when it drops on September 15th.

Laura Jean Shares Too Much to Do Video

Laura Jean‘s new album Amateurs will drop in November, but today we get another glimpse at the world being crafted for listeners. This song does a great job teasing the listener, utilizing a vibrant piano and vocals as the backbone, with little string bits meant to create tension in step with those forceful piano lines. And, just as you think the song might not travel further, it drops in at the 1:36 mark, kicking off this insatiable groove that has you bobbing and weaving as the string work continues to add structure to the tune itself. Still, the song keeps building in a sense, with the vocals hitting an almost blissed out angelic tone, creating this sort of climactic moment that ends just as you feel it peak! A glorious 3 Act song you can easily adore this morning. Amateurs drops November 4th via Chapter Music.

Melby Share Music Should Feel Single

I tend to agree with Melby here, as music should definitely feel, or at least make you feel. That said, I feel like this is the perfect track to entice the larger indie rock listeners, as it draws on the modern tropes, but still has those little details that make it feel like a wholly Melby tune. Matilda’s voice is so enticingly playful here that I couldn’t help but draw comparisons to the way we all fawned over Feist back in the day; it’s got that same joy in letting notes sort of rise and fall in syllables. You’ll get a dose of jazziness bubbling up, but ultimately, it’s a relaxed pop tune that doesn’t need much more than the band’s care, as the craft here is too superb to ignore. They’ll release Looks Like a Map via Rama Lama Records on October 21st.

Tin-ear Share Dress Up With Me

Last week we brought you a rad single from Tin-ear, excited by the sounds coming from my speakers. Today, well, I’m even more convinced of the band’s brilliance as we get another single to taste. This one hits immediately, emphatically bursting from the get-go; I liken the vocal barrage to this middle ground between old Rainer Maria and Joanna Gruesome, not quite shouting, but sure to let you know. Musically, its this rise and fall of rolling indie rock, and you can feel the power pouring through the amps; you can tell this band would be dangerously good live. Thus, turn it up below, and be sure to grab Cadastral Maps, out on September 9th via Gentle Reminder.

Talk Show Share Leather Video

Hear me out, but imagine you’re making a weird musical stew, which is how I imagine this Talk Show track came to exist in the world. It all starts off with building your roux, which in this case seems to be a sort of weird world where early bits of the Cure get melded with this sort of hyperactive bit you’d get from old Aphex Twin and Prodigy. But, things aren’t quite ready, so you sprinkle in a bit of Liars later recordings and the propulsive nature of Sleaford Mods. You’re set there, so you add in the main bits, some darkened vocals, which blend in the dark post-punk vocals of acts like Shame. I share that recipe only to let you in on the big secret…there’s nothing I’ve heard quite like this jam. The band will release their Touch the Ground EP via Missing Piece on September 23rd.

Don Glori Share Ponte Single

Sometimes, and I know it’s completely on me, but I feel like my musical tastes can sometimes get one-note, especially on here. But, I love all sort of stuff, and probably have some sort of musical ADHD, which is why I’ve just been drinking my coffee and jamming this track from Don Glori, the recording project of Melbourne’s Gordon Li. The project has just announced a debut LP, Welcome, and this first single is a collage that moves from a soulful Latin groove into an almost classical-oriented lounge act, though in doing this seamlessly, you’re just sitting there with your head spinning, lost in the chilled vibes Li has built for us all. The debut LP will be out on October 14th courtesy of Bedroom Suck Records.
