Let’s Whisper Share Sing Video

This Friday we’ll finally get to unwind and enjoy the entirety of the new long player from Let’s Whisper; I’ve been raving about every single all along the way. Today, the band have shared a lyric video with us, filled with a simplistic charm, taking the cover art from the record and spinning it around the lyrics. Musically, the band are steady as ever, taking an artistically penned ballad and raising it up by adding little bits of flare. There’s horns, softened percussion, accompanying vocal work and all these little bits between; it not only builds the emotional connection as you listen, but buoys the charm factor that will hopefully solidify your belief in how good the new LP is; The In-Between Times comes out this Friday courtesy of Fika Recordings.

Junior Boys Announce Waiting Game; Share Night Walk Vid

It’s been a handful of years since we last heard from Junior Boys, and in that time, a lot has happened to us all. So, as you’ll hear, things have changed for the band too, moving from their beat-driven vibes to a more contemplative realm. The opening moment almost feels like its going to drop in a huge hook…and that likely would be okay, but they switch it on us. The song opens up, studying the genre, toying with pace and our expectations. Many will likely draw soundtrack comparisons, but in this presentation, it feels purposeful, almost meditative, allowing listener to bathe in the composition. Looking forward to hearing what the rest of their new album, Waiting Game, has to offer us all; it drops on October 28th via City Slang.

The Black Watch Release The Neverland of Spoken Things EP

My personal faves, The Black Watch, quietly released their new The Neverland of Spoken Things EP via Bandcamp over the weekend, sneaking it under the radar! It won’t officially be out until the first weeks of September, but you know I can’t hold back on posting about the band. The lead track here will appear on the band’s forthcoming LP, slated for a release in 2023, but the next two are exclusives to this release…and personally, I’m totally drawn towards “Precious Little.” There’s something about the repeating guitar line, waiting for its turn to ring out in a more traditional fashion; it almost gives the song that motorik rhythm, though spun by the webs of guitars rather than percussion. For me, where some bands would wrap it up and call the song done, the Black Watch aren’t afraid to let the guitars noodle and open up a bit, riding the jam to the end. Always a pleasure to hear this band at work.

Pet Owner Shares Hi-Res Single

Lea Mathis’ Pet Owner project has been on our radar for months now, with an expected album out somewhere at the end of this year, or early next year. Today, I’m really happy to share with you the next single installment, which puts Mathis craft in a world not too far off from the likes of Beach House or Aldous Harding. Interesting, the vocal work on this tune, while special, almost feels like its crafted to build in another texture to the tracks groovy rhythm. I can also hear where Broadcast or Stereolab fanatics might find enjoyment here, particularly in the way the song almost seems like an electronic mediation. More great stuff from the Swiss artist.

Eerie Wanda Share Long Time Video

We’re just about a month away from the release of a new LP from Dutch outfit Eerie Wanda, and this new single is the sort of cathartic slow dance you need on a Monday morning. Listening through this tune, my brain feels like this is the internal soundtrack to Sandra Bullock’s brain during Gravity…it’s just this beautiful drifting piece, and while it may be frightening and painted darkly, there’s this stunning elegance that sweeps you up in its passing. If you’re looking for escapism, then Marina Tadic beckons; Eerie Wanda will release Internal Radio on September 23rd via Joyful Noise.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there’s an overabundance of great music coming out as of late? I mean, I fell in love with at least a half dozen new tracks last week, and that’s just the one’s I was able to get up on the site. At the end of the day, I’m still blown away by that Mo Troper tune; I was a fan before but these last two tracks are out of this world good. Ribbon Stage dropped another hit we couldn’t escape running, plus there’s some old ATH standbys like Michael Beach, the Beths and Free Time (all Oceanic acts no less!). Press play, and sink into that Monday vibe.

Mo Troper Shares The Only Living Goy in New York

Maybe its entirely a stretch, but I feel like Mo Troper‘s latest album is likely going to put him in a sort of Daniel Johnston territory all by himself. On the first single from MTV, you got a little bit of that sort of link between his early work and where it seems like he’s heading on this collection. It’s not even the faint warble and distinctive delivery, but just the finer, whimsical details like the harmonica and faint percussion that really makes me feel like he’s crafting some of the more magical music to come out right now. I sincerely hope you’ll give it a listen, then be sure to pick up MTV on September 2nd via Lame-O.

Fatal Jamz Share Eternity

I’m pretty much a sucker for any brand of synthetic pop, particularly if it’s got a shade of darkness…which this Fatal Jamz tune has, both in the song’s origin and the overall vibe here. The track arose in the months following the passing of a dear friend of singer Marion. I think you can hear some of the open wounds still being processed in the presentation, with this almost nakedness hanging out there a bit for the listener. Most of that revolves around the fragility of the vocals, but I think the cavernous feel illustrates Marion’s push to climb from the darkness of those times and bring a bit more light into the world. Loving this jam for sure.

Tin-ear Prep Cadastral Maps

At the moment, I can’t stop playing this new jam from Tin-ear. Out of nowhere, the band rush into the fray, elbowing their way with these vibrant vocal hooks that sink into your skin immediately. Suddenly, the band break it down, almost cutting the breakneck pace in half; it’s like they’ve expended so much energy in the song’s opening half, they just couldn’t keep it up, but in seeing the song’s finish line, the punch it up one last time, letting out one last emphatic breath before the song closes. If you’re digging, the band will be releasing their mini-LP, Cadastral Maps, on September 9th via Gentle Reminder Records.

Nova Blast Prep Debut LP

The opening moments of this new Nova Blast track feel like my head right now, ready to explode. Somehow, the song feels cathartic, like the noise can surround and comfort rather than build on anxieties. Interestingly, the Swedish band seem to balance their noisy brand of rock n’ roll with a bit of an allegiance to grunge vibes, as you can certainly hear this song fitting nicely into the 90s vibe. And, just as you feel your ears can take no more, the noise subsides, and the song comes to a rest, waiting to go again. The band release Eccolalia on September 16th via Rama Lama Records.
