The Persian Leaps Announce Machines for Living

We’ve long cherished the work of Drew Forsberg and his outfit, the Persian Leaps. This week, the group announce their latest release, an EP titled Machines for Living. Our first sneak peek is this polished bit of power pop, specially built for fans of later Teenage Fanclub and the like. It employs that huge wall of ringing guitars, more sharper than distorted, building a wave of melody to meet up with the vocals. And on that note, there’s just something about the way the vocals are done here, from the “oohs” to the way they drop in on the chorus that makes me feel like this is Drew’s best work to date. Enjoy this jam my friends. Machines for Living is out on October 7th.

Yesterday’s Beths Tune + Video

Sorry I didn’t get this Beths tune up yesterday, as I’m sure you’ve already jammed it, so this adds to the musical white noise effect, but I’m thinking this is my favorite of the new Beths tunes. It’s the tune most reminiscent of their debut, which I adored, perfectly executing the quietloudquiet practice of pop rock n’ roll. Liz’s voice keeps the drive of the song alive, but it’s that delicious drop in of the chorus that gets me going each time I press play on this jam. Plus, you get a rad little solo to boot? Their new LP, Expert in a Dying Field is out on September 16th via Carpark.

There are certain bands I get to fawn over on these Interweb pages, and as of late, it looks like its going to be the case for Ribbon Stage and their new LP. There’s something insatiable about the latest tune, something that keeps me pressing play again and again and again. It starts with a wall of furious noise, building into this thumping rhythm that allows the distorted guitar sound to sway in and out of focus. On the edge, you get the melodic vocal notes, though they’re just beneath the mix, kind of undecided about how forcefully they’ll make their presence. Still, they had this sweetness to the furiousness, which has Hit With the Most high upon my anticipated albums as the year draws to a close; it’s out October 21st via K Records.

Chuck 2 Shares Teenage Chrononaut

Admittedly, I know very little of Cincinatti, Ohio’s Chuck 2, although I’ll be honest and tell you I’ve really been just sitting back and rocking out to their new album How You Landed Here. Listening to the opening tune, I tried to come up with some magical associations that could easily hook you, and I think I’ve found one that seems fitting, at least in my ears. So, press play on the track below…draw from your musical knowledge…then tell me it doesn’t sound like David Bazan jamming out and writing his own version of Guided By Voices tunes? No? Regardless, this song (and the album) is a ripper, so let those heavy riffs wash ashore!

Free Time Share Jangle Jargon Title Track + Video

A few weeks back, we got the strikingly sparky “That’s Rare” from the forthcoming Free Time LP. Below, you’ll find the Jangle Jargon’s title track in video format, revealing a more pensive brand of guitar pop from Dion. We join Dion (and dog), canoeing alongside him in still waters while the gentle strum paddles us downstream; it’s a mellower turn than the opening single, allowing the listener more of an immersive experience. Just at the 2:22 mark or so the percussive element gives us a bit of a gallop, with Nania relishing the mantra of “jangle jargon” before the song erupts into a bit of pop exploration, guitars noodling as Dion accompanies in visual interpretive dance. A different journey down the river, but one that’s as equally rewarding as its predecessor; Jangle Jargon drops on September 30th via Bedroom Suck Records.

The Orchids Share Didn’t We Love You

Now that we’re settled in with our playlist, let us focus on the great hits coming your way today, like this latest ditty from the Orchids. Honestly, this is pure old fashioned pop music of the non-commercial sort (sadly); it’s the sort you’d expect to hear from a classic indiepop act! Jangles are soft and sharp, with this bubbling bass line cruising underneath the softened vocal twists. It seems so simple, but there’s no way you can’t just bob your head and appreciate how classically good this is; it doesn’t need flare or drama, as it’s the purest of pop sounds…and I can’t get enough. Dreaming Kind will be out on September 2nd via Skep Wax.

Bryan Cooper Shares Beta Life

You better believe that when a songwriter name drops Suede, Stone Roses and Blur as influences, I’m going to spend sometime listening, which is how I fell in love with this new Bryan Cooper tune. The opening verse alone, pulling on those sort of classic riffs, gritty but dripping with melody makes it easy to be charmed on this one, particularly if you let Cooper’s sweet vocal notes push on through as well. But, just as you expect the quiet loud quiet chorus move, Bryan takes it into a different direction, stripping the pace back and allowing the song to unfold the way he sees fit. I love the way he really hits those high notes, letting his voice take you to bright new heights!

Human Barbie Release Wait

The first Human Barbie tune from the forthcoming EP was a real gem, and it looks like we’ve got another tune to devour today. On days like today, where it’s 7:30 and I’m already daydreaming, this tune is perfect, and it’s all down to the way Christopher Leopold is crafting his tracks. You can hear the elements of dream pop or shoegaze lurking in the shadows, but they end up coming across in a different manner, as Leopold is intent upon dragging out the tune a bit, filling it with patience that takes the song into more of a slowcore mantra. It’s got the bits and pieces you love, but you get to digest differently; Human Barbie will release a new EP on October 12th via Poor Man Records.

The Slow Summits Share Time’s On Your Side

Friday’s are perfect for Swedish pop songs, in my ears. You’re looking out the window, counting down the windows towards freedom, but as the Slow Summits detail in their latest single, “time’s on your side,” so be sure to take it all in. The song itself is a subtle jangling ditty, rolling and bouncing along the highway of life, all the while Anders drapes his velvety voice atop to layer more melody for your ears. For a band that claims that their “songs aren’t extraordinary,” they sure pack a charming punch that I can return to again and agin.

Split Cassette Coming from Mythical Motors and Antlered Auntlord

I love the concept of a split tape; it’s like a perfect sampler platter…little bit of this here, little bit of that there…and hopefully it’s all delicious. In the case of the Mythical Motors/Antlered Auntolord Split Tape, well, it’s all tasty to me. Mythical Motors is a relatively new band, to me, and they’re just ripping up these sunny pop tunes; this single below falls somewhere between the punch of GBV and the pop vibes of Superdrag (which is a compliment!). Antlered Auntlord, on the other hand, are always going to give you something that feels a touch more raucous and devil-may-care. Their tune below is a bit of noise, a sprinkle of driving punk, all built around a central melody that brings a smile to your face! If you dig, as you should, why not grab the tape from HHBTM today!
