T.G. Shand Unleashes New Single

We’ve been fortunate enough to hear what T.G. Shand has been up to on a couple of occasions over the last few months, with a handful of singles breaking out in 2025. Her latest seems to move her further towards lush dream pop, to a place where you’ll meet Kate Bush nostalgia and modern bedroom pop masterpieces. Synths hit and roll across the tune, with Annemarie Duff’s vocals shadowed behind those beats, every so often pulling back the curtain to reveal a clear vision of modern pop. If you haven’t had the time to hear what the project is crafting, spend a little of your morning immersed in what’s below here, then thank us later.

The Notwist Announce News from Planet Zombie

Was behind the paywall when news broke that the Notwist were returning with a brand new album, and upon the first listen, it does feel a bit like they’ve returned to some of their earlier fascinations. Our first hint has the group opening with a thunderous rhythm, as bit of synthetic structures seems to build behind that bounding noise. Moving the track forward, the vocals embrace a little solemnity from within, carefully sitting in the middle of a mix; ends of verses seem to be emphasized by a shattering of crashing drums/cymbals, ensuring the group are still working on their experimental approach to songwriting (though rumor has it this was recorded live in studio with all members present!). News from Planet Zombie arrives on March 13th.

Single Lash Release Now for the Real World EP

Looks like we’re starting our Wednesday off with a little bit of an Austin-centric focus, celebrating another one of our favorite acts, Single Lash. The group kicks off their latest effort, Now for the Real World, with Roxy Music cover, indicating the maturity with which they’ve approached their new work. The two new songs definitely have roots in the bands nostalgic-leaning sound, but they dwell in the present, pushed on by the careful production and the heavy tones of Nicolas Nadeau; I continue to be fascinated by his stronghold over the drama between syllables, listening in as note seems to breathe on its own. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ve heard the group execute as well as they do on “Now for the Real World,” feeling like they’ve finally hit their apex, though time will tell, as we never tire of their sound!

More New Daphne Tunes

Just last month, our buddy Santi and Daphne Tunes snuck a brand new tune into the world, and this last week, the project announced a brand new record, slated for release in February of next year. Aside from our aforementioned adoration of all things Santiago RD, I really love the build in this song, particularly as the track opens up around the 2 minute mark, kind of like a runner hitting that last turn and really turning it on. There’s a great line that I hope rings true for the artist, as he pens the line “why’s it always everybody/wanna write me off like a hobby,” but hopefully the narrator knows his own greatness…and that of this project. Looking forward to hearing all of Volume D!

Parent Teacher Shares NVD//A Single

Feels like with all the AI generated music and algorithmic punches in the world, we can look towards artists like Parent Teacher who look to combine all the elements of the world into a unique sound all their own. I loved the shuffled of the latest single, fusing a quick bit of rhythm with a fast-paced strum that amplifies the natural energy. The percussive element is what cements the tune for me, working with lot of non-traditional pieces to create that primal movement. The vocals, on the other hand seemingly work against the frantic nature, creating this perfect juxtaposition that’ll have you returning to check your ears.

Mint Records to Reissue Cub’s Come Out Come Out

As the year winds to a close, we get some excellent news that the esteemed Canadian label, Mint Records, will be reissuing Cub‘s Come Out Come Out for a special 30th Anniversary Edition. The group have remastered the tunes for a special vinyl release, while also reordering the album so it has a slightly different flow. You can stream the new version of “New York City,” which doesn’t sound like a track that’s 30 years old, especially as the fuzzy playfulness that courses through the song is an ever-present sound in our listening rotation. You deserve some fun pop rock in your life, so why not crank this up and order the record before its release on January 15th.

More New Music from Winged Wheel

Not too long ago we were discussing the meditative nature of the first single on the new Winged Wheel LP, but as one would expect from a group of well-seasoned songwriters, their latest track ventures off on a different path. This single almost feels like a lost transmission, with the vocals distant in their presentation; they carefully tip-toe around each little bent guitar line. Careful ears will find a bobbing little bass line maneuvering beneath, holding the tune together as the transmission reverberates in your listening space, all before crashing into each other and fading out in proper fashion. Their new LP, Desert So Green, will be out on January 9th via 12XU Records.

Listen to Title Track from Bird Friend’s New LP

Just last week, Bird Friend released their new long-player, Goodbye, Babylon, and I’ve definitely felt at home listening to the record’s blended styles. At times you can almost hear the guitar ghosts of various acts like the Feelies or the Bats; they embrace a mixture of sharp notes leaning up against really solid strummed acoustics. Typically, that would be enough, though I’d be lying if I didn’t own up to loving the earnestness of the vocal work on the tune; it feels alive in the recording, and that, in turn makes me feel alive within the track too. If you’re enjoying, then you’ll want to listen to the whole of Goodbye, Babylon right HERE.

New Music from Cameron Sonnier

If you’re a person who loves the style and craft of a good singer-songwriter, then we hope you’ve been listening as we’ve hyped up Houstonian artist Cameron Sonnier. When listening through to his latest single, there’s something that reminds me a lot of the recent Tony Molina record, albeit done in Cameron’s own style, which fleshes more of the underlying ambiance by texturizing with synthetic structures. It’s the sort of tune that’ll let you sit back and soak in the cozy melodies of Sonnier’s work. Looking forward to hearing more from Cameron in the new year.

Circling Back to Devereux Scales

In going through all the old emails from this year, it looks like I’ve missed a ton of really great music, like Devereux Scales, who released their self-titled LP a few months back. They’ve got this sound that’s reminiscent of Galaxie 500, at least if you’re going by the song we’re sharing below. It exhibits this deliberate patience, circling overhead with these delighting angularities. They seduce you with their vocal interplay, layering with this slightly angelic backing vocal to lift the tune’s melody right to our ears. And, if you thought everything was all beauty and crispness, then hold out for the latter half of the tune where they explore a heavier sonic stretch. Their self-titled LP is available for your listening pleasure right now!
