So Stuck on This Tears Track

11220094_1644756532442496_2804422469489400269_nWe’ve dabbled in the making of podcasts and playlists, and if I had to pick a song that stuck, or will stick, with all of November it’s got to be this spectacular Tears tune. The song comes into my ears sounding like this beautiful combination of indiepop, garage rock and shoegaze, adding a further layer with the deep tones of the vocal performance. The group, hailing from Denmark, has gotten some love via In Transit Records, and I’m just going to continue to pile up the praise. One listen and you’ll find yourself your own new favorite song; I promise.

Hear the Title Track from Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s New EP

painsI can’t lie about my adoration for Pains of Being Pure at Heart, especially as they’ve grown and changed throughout the years. The last two releases from the band, including their new Hell EP seem to have pulled back the shades on the band’s distortion-laden pop songs, leaving us with these undeniably catchy hooks. As I listen to “Hell” I can’t help but to see some similarities to the work of Orange Juice, filling the track with sensational grooves and a great vocal performance. How does one not fall in love with this track? Look for the EP at the end of this week, featuring two covers in addition to this tune.

Fresh Bit of Pop from Postal Blue

postalblueWe had a Postal Blue track a few weeks ago, and we’re really excited to share this new number with you today. There’s angular guitars circling around the voice of Adriano, which as always, is quite spectacular. A slight change of pace between verse and chorus occurs, captivating the listener, turning the tune into something memorable. I couldn’t stop playing this song all morning long, and am even more excited for the new release, Of Love & Other Affections, which is coming out courtesy of Jigsaw Records on November 20th. Stream this single, dream big things and have a great day.

Hear Some Wovoka Gentle

wovokaI’m really stuck on this new track from Wovoka Gentle. The group seemingly operate as a folk-influenced act, but in their construction you can hear digital blips and overlapping vocals. Sure, these things have been used before, but in doing it in this manner, the band manages to create something wholly captivating…and a touch out there. It bodes well for the band’s Wovoka Gentle (Blue) EP, which should offer listeners a slightly different path down the modern indie-folk road. Look for the EP to hit on November 27th via Yucatan Records.

Groovy Tune from St. Tropez

fuzzI have no idea what to really say about this single from St. Tropez, other than you’re going to love it…I hope. There’s this fuzzy riffage that opens the track, then sticks around to sort of propel the song forward energetically. But, in the vocals, there’s something, like a cross between BRMC and Brit-pop…maybe just a darkly tinged bit of indifference. The Dutch outfit got some love in the studio from Spring King, so you know people are taking note of their work already. This latest single just indicates that we’ve got more good things coming…hopefully more new tunes in 2016.

Another Rocker from The Brainstems

bsDiscordant garage rock is all the rage these days, which is the perfect place for The Brainstems to fit. But, every time I listen, I hear similarities, though they’re spun in an entirely different manner, elevating the group beyond your average fair. There’s a bratty touch to the vocals on this single, almost coming off like a cock-sure swagger. Interplay between the guitars creates a nice little stutter…all leading up to the breakdown at the latter half of the track that comes out like an evil bit of freak out. November 27th will see the release of the band’s new album, No Place Else, which should win the group man a fan.

Fresh Track from Puunhalaaja

pjListening to Puunhalaaja, and bands like Dungen, reminds me of the power of music. I clearly have no idea what the band’s name means, nor what the lyrics hold, but I’m drawn to the Finnish artist regardless. There’s a smooth emotion sitting in the groove of the guitar work, and the vocals feel extremely familiar, at least in their tone. Music, I suppose, always lives in its emotive qualities, be it the song you lost your virginity to or something that connects to you more deeply; it matters to us because we leave affected. I look forward to seeing what else happens when the debut album is dropped on Soliti Music on November 20th.

Soulful Swagger from The She’s

shesRegardless of where you are, Friday’s can be a drag. You’re almost to the weekend, but it’s not quite there; you need something to pick you up? Listen to this single from The She’s that just got tossed out. There’s a little bit of a garage-rock boogie going on, though you can still hear some soulful vocal touches that you’d expect from only the best in the genre. It’s pretty tough not to tap your toes and get down with this little jam. This number appears on the band’s Split 7″ with Dry Spells, which is being released by Empty Cellar Records on November 20th.

More New Tuff Sunshine

tuffIt amazes me how many great tracks come across our desks. I immediately gravitated to the subdued sound of the guitar on this new Tuff Sunshine, having found the overall mood really appealing. Listening closely, there’s some slight little touches that really force the song to the forefront of my listening rotation. First, it was the slow introduction of the percussion, then the nice little vocal backings and finally resting on that boisterous bit of explosive indie rock in the middle track. If you like what you hear, you should grab the band’s new album, Fire in the Hero Building…it’s available now.

Fresh Indiepop from The Hermit Crabs

hermitFigured as the weather was getting a little dreary here in Austin, it’s best that I turn that attitude around with something cheery…at least musically speaking. This song is a brand new number from the Hermit Crabs, who’ve quietly announced the release of a new album titled In My Flat. It’s got everything one needs from the perfect indiepop track: bouncing rhythm, jangling guitars and charming vocals. I think those of you looking to be charmed will find your happy place hiding here in this track. You can grab the album from Matinee Recordings on November 19th.
