Spirited New Tune from Kishi Bashi

kishiIt’s been a whirlwind of a year for Kishi Bashi, who won over so many people with his glorious 151a LP.  But, fans of the artist should be really excited, as he’s readying a brand new 7″, which will serve as the precursor to a new record in the next year. I don’t know how someone can listen to this song and not feel some sort of spiritual upheaval or joyous emotion overtake you; it’s this sort of attitude that has allowed Kishi to become so successful and beloved.  The new 7″ will be very limited, and only made available through Joyful Noise Recordings; it will be available on September 10th.

New Music from Gap Dream

gapdreamBurger Records has been on a role this year, putting out hits by various bands, namely The Memories.  But, news broke today that they’ll also be releasing the brand new album from Gap Dream, which has me particularly excited.  On the first single you can tell that there’s a definite chilled out approach on this effort, with strong synth work and the vocals of Gabriel Fulvimar taking the main focus. Listening closely, you can hear a rad little guitar line coursing through in the background too! This new record is titled Shine the Light, and it’ll be out on the streets on November 12…and I’ll be picking it up.

Azure Blue Readies New LP

azureblue-willowsandpines_highres-500x500I first caught on to Azure Blue when the band released it’s last album via Matinee Recordings. The group is the work of Tobias Issakson, and for me, I really appreciated the understated quality of his pop sensibility. Yes, it’s electronic-based pop, but it doesn’t push the beats too hard, instead using dreamier synth sounds and a casual pace. His voice carefully rests atop the instrumentation, creating songs that allow for escapism. His new album, Beyond the Dreams There’s Infinite Doubt will be out sometime this Fall.

Brand Spanking New Tune from New Tigers

newtigersOur good friends over at the wonderful Soliti Music have just announced that The New Tigers are back again with a brand new record; they’ve added a new drummer due to the mix too.  On this new tune, there’s a playful attitude that wraps itself around the ramshackle drumming and ringing guitar sound. I like the fact that the group is still sticking to writing longer songs, at least that’s what’s evidenced here; it allows for various movements within each song, which always excited me.  The new LP is titled The Badger, and it will be made available on September 20th; hopefully it brings them to the States.

Quick Indie Pop Tune from Amida

amidaYou gotta keep your ears to the Internet if you’re going to stay on top of all the great music coming out nowadays, but things are easy when you’ve got reliable labels like Dufflecoat Records putting out hits.  The latest release from the label is going to be the new 7″ EP from Amida, a Manchester act playing around with the poppier side of the city.  The first tune from the record is a catchy bouncer that spans just beyond the 1 minute mark, but that doesn’t mean you’re not going to feel the inherent joy from the song.  If you’re into it, support the great label by ordering the 7″ as soon as you have a spare penny or pound.

Another New Hit from Dent May

Dent MayI’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been on the fence since Dent May changed things up, musically.  But, having listened to his latest song, I think I’m starting to come on board with his new sound.  For one, the guitars here are definitely hitting the spot; they’ve got that stutter-step jangle like some early Orange Juice hits.  Then, Dent calmly swoons in with his casino troubadour croon; it all fits pretty nicely together.  This is the second single from Dent May’s forthcoming record, Warm Blanket, which has an August 27th release date from Paw Tracks.

Psych Gem from The New Lines

fall_in_lineOne of the great things about stalking those you consider taste makers is that they do indeed lead you to find great gems.  I stumbled across this new track from The New Lines just the other day while doing just that, trolling my heroes.  But, since then, I’ve been obsessed; I love the way the organ works in the background of this track while the vocals have almost an eerie floating quality to them.  The New York outfit will have a new full-length titled Fall in Line coming your way on August 19th via Moon Glyph. Dig.

Old School Feeling Pop from Society

societyWay back in my youth, and probably some of yours as well, there were artists spinning blends of pop around hip-hop breaks and samples, then mixing them with various orchestral arrangements to thicken the sound.  There were certain records from that period that still haunt my computer playlist.  I get a similar feeling when I listen to Society, the project of James Girdler, who seemed reluctant to come out into the open after his first single was so well received.  Listening here, it’s definitely British, definitely enchanting. Let it take you to the weekend.

Noisy Rocker from Running

runningYou looking for something that’s gritty and abrasive? Well, you won’t have to go any further, as I’ve got this brand new track for you from Running.  It’s a short track filled with several varying moments; there’s the methodical grinding of guitars and drums and there’s the furious barrage of noise that attacks your ears.  Then before you know, discordant noise fades out into the background; the song is over. If you’re a fan of what’s coming out of your speakers, then keep your eyes peeled, as the band’s Vaguely Ethnic LP comes out next week via Castle Face Records.

Chapter Music To Release New Record from The Ancients

the-ancients.2Seems like it’s been a good couple of weeks for our dear friends over at Chapter Music in Australia.  They let loose a few hits late last week, and they’re right back at it with the announcement that they’ll be putting out the new album from The Ancients. While the song warms to your ears slowly, the beauty that unfolds is something quite remarkable.  Be it the effortless pop vibe or the gentle delivery of the vocals, it’s a song that really deserves as much praise as you can offer.  It’ll be featured on Night Bus, which sees an October 18th release date.  Chapter deserves awards this year for sure.
