Last Week’s Jams (2.20 – 2.24)

Even after taking off Monday, we managed to get tons of coverage out there. I was stoked to hear that new Cindy song that I had been promised late last year. RayRay started pushing some of our SXSW introductions out with Pendant and Orions Belte. A handful of Austin acts tossed out new tunes, so check in on Hallo, Space Tan and Transy Warhol…a few who will be playing our just announced ATH vs SOTO SXSW Party. Plus, I got a bonus add by getting an excuse to post a little Braid to this site, on top of including my favorite releases of the week for streaming purposes. Get at it below.

Fun Friday Streams

Friday’s, for me, Friday is a little bit of freedom, a little bit of a chance to kind of kick back and look towards the weekend. And, what better way to do that than by finding some sweet records to spend some time with as you so? I’ve compiled a few of the records on my list for today, maybe you’ll spend some time with them as well!

Last Week’s Jams, Today (11.14 – 11.18)

It’s that time of year when songs begin to dry up for some reason, as we’re all just expected to put our lives on hold to gather some lists for you to browse. Still, we managed to get some new tunes out your way, hoping to keep your eyes on the prize. I loved the new Spice World tune, and was fortunate to be able to run a video premiere for the latest from Shaki Tavi. We’ll likely still have a handful of tunes for you this week, but will likely take a little break ourselves to kick it with our families.

Summer Flake Share One Less Thing Video

Today is looking an awful lot like it’s a dedicated Aussie Friday, which I’m totally okay with to be fair. So, we’ve got another new tune from Summer Flake, who tossed a single our way just before Halloween. This one has this old sort of Hope Sandoval vibe to it, with these layered vocal pieces that really create sort of the first wall of the band’s sound; it’s got this powerful weight, holding all the melody in one spot. In the second wall you’ll get these rolling drum hits, giving the track movement so as to coincide with the fiery guitar licks cutting through your speakers. This track is the title track from the new LP, One Less Thing, which will drop via Rice is Nice next February.

Summer Flake Return with Stranger Single

It’s been several years since we’ve heard from Aussie outfit Summer Flake, but we’re all being rewarded today with a brand new single and the hope that more is on the horizon. A light little strum drew me into this tune, offering a sort of musical ray of sunshine that could slide right into any moment in your life. The vocals feel equally as light, and in a sense, almost dreamily playful, riding the mix like a white knight on a glorious stallion of melody. To me, there’s something super sweet in its simplicity, and I can’t help but appreciate every moment of this tune; here’s to hoping we get more. Track out today courtesy of Rice is Nice!

Digging This Grunge From Summer Flake

unnamed-29Stephanie Crase, of Adelaide, Australia, is the front lady behind the moniker, Summer Flake. Together, with her bandmates, she’s got a new album coming out in a little over a month on the fine label Rice is Nice Records. To amp us up for that album, they’ve got a new video for the track “Shoot and Score,” and have also debuted a whole new song, “Wine Won’t Wash Away,” which are both killer grunge-pop tracks that will help you get through the Monday. Personally, I like the way the guitars fuzz out while the vocals are very mellow and even tempered. Take a listen to both below.
