Austin Free Week: Thursday Highlights

I hope you’re all taking full advantage of Austin’s Free Week, despite the chilling temperatures.  There’s tons of great bands left and right, not to mention DJs and dance parties.  It’s a special time of the year when the music community gives back, so we’ve got to be there to show our love, right? Here’s my list of things to hit up on Thursday, though it’s just one man’s ideas.  Read more

Show Preview: Wild Nothing, Abe Vigoda @ Red 7 (2/4)

Date Friday, Feb 4th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 from Frontgate

February has already kicked off with some great shows, but I reckon to bet that there won’t be a better ticket in town than this, whether it’s snowing or not!  First, Wild Nothing won over fans last year with Gemini, and continued kicking ass with the Golden Haze EP.  Their combination of bedroom pop and electronica just fits perfectly into our lives.  Then, you have the incredible Abe Vigoda, and since this is their first tour since the release of Crush, you know they’re going to bring their A game.  On that alone, two amazing bands for $8, you should go.  But, because life sometimes can get better, you have two of the hottest bands in town opening with Bali Yaaah and Superlitebike.  Haven’t gotten to see Bali Yaaah just yet, but Superlitebike is ridiculous live.  Do it folks, lets keep each other warm.

Friday Top 10: Austin Albums of 2010

It’s that time of year folks, the time when we THINK we know what’s the best of the best.  In a year where some old faces reemerged, and some new faces joined the scene, we had a hard time narrowing things down, but these are our favorite Ten Albums by Austin bands in the year 2010.  If you think we’re wrong, we’re cool with you voicing your opinion, but be nice, these are just one group’s opinions.

Photos: Fresh Millions @ The Parish (8/14)

Saturday night at The Parish we helped put on an awesome show by local bands Fresh Millions, Love at 20, and Superlitebike.  Lucky for you and me, I made a new friend named Charles who just so happened to be a photographer with an impressive portfolio.  After the jump you can find some fancy photos Charles took at the show on Saturday.  If nothing else, you gotta see the badass laser show put on by Love at 20.  Superlitebike were also very impressive as I had never seen them live.  They know how to rock!  Oh and I’m sorry to Fresh Millions for having to bounce before their set, but I’ve seen them live and know they can rock the place as well.  Follow the jump for photos.
