Another Piece of Pop from Supermoon

supermoonNext week we’ll finally be able to get our hands on what sounds to be a delightful release from Supermoon. They’ve just unleashed another of the tunes off their forthcoming release, and it’s a doozy. There’s this indifferent vocal delivery that dominates the tune, almost in a disinterested punk sort of way; it matches the vibe of the darkly tinted guitar work too. But, beware, as a flow of pop hides deep within the tune, which of course is my favorite moment here. Playland is going to be joyous in an unexpected sort of way; look for it via Mint Records on May 20th.

Another Bouncy Tune from Supermoon

supermoonWhile there might be an indiepop pedigree within the confines of Supermoon, it doesn’t seem like the band’s settling to live on their past histories. Their latest single from their forthcoming Mint Records release has a certain bounce that recalls acts like La Luz, though with only a slight hint of the psychedelic elements in there. It’s more like a catchy little shuffle you heard in early R&B groups that never left your head. Their double 7″ Playland comes out on May 20th.

Supermoon and Soft Pop

supermoonSupermoon are going to be the next big thing, at least in my listening rotation. In fact, knowing that the members were part of Pups (which featured Rose Melberg) makes this all the more enticing. The Vancouver group has signed on to work with Mint Records, fresh off the back of their Comet Lovejoy EP. Our first listen to one of the track off their forthcoming double 7″ is as playful and carefully crafted as the best pop music can be. There’s a sincerity that’s often overlooked, with guitar chords seemingly picked with the greatest care. Look for their new Playland 7″ on May 20th.

Show Pics: Locals Only @ Mohawk (7/26)

Black Books…with a brief visit to Cheer Up.

So we talk quite bit about supporting the locals. We also suggested making supporting the locals easier with folding in the artists in smart ways. Our friends at The Mohawk had a great idea; why not fill a night off with an inside/outside show for a cheap cover to help you see a ton of local talent? Make it so.

Perfect excuse to have fun with the nifty fifty and spend a night milling about The Mohawk and saying hi to friends with a soundtrack provided by Little Radar, Wiretree, Young Tongue, Supermoon, Black Books, Modern Medicine and a quick trip next door to catch up with Shivery Shakes at Cheer Up.
