Surf City Lay Down New Tunes

surf-cityAdmittedly, this Surf City tune slipped right by me. But, considering I’ve loved the band for quite some time, I had to make sure you guys heard this new tune.  This track shows the growth the band has made since we had them play our SXSW show a few years; they used to be coated in noisy distortion, but they’ve settled into a brand of pop that offers more accessibility whilst still holding true to their style.  You’ll hear this track on the band’s new album, Jekyll Island, which is being released later this year by Fire Records.

New Jam from Surf City

surfcityFive years ago when we were just young bucks starting out on our site, we threw a small SXSW party at the now defunct ghost room.  One of the acts we were really excited to bring in was Surf City, and I’ve closely followed the group since those early days.  Through three albums, they’ve polished up their sound a little bit, bringing the excessive noise down a bit, choosing to replace it with more direct melodies.  They’ll have a new album coming out titled We Knew It Was Not Going to Be Like This, which comes out August 19th via Fire Records.  Should definitely be a good record to wrap up the summer.

More New Music From Surf City

I’m sure you know by know that we really dig those New Zealand boys in Surf City.  Hell just a couple months ago we brought you new track “Crazy Rulers of the World” and we’re already bringing you yet another new jam from the band.  This new one is the title track from the band’s upcoming LP Kudos which again hits stores this coming November.  We can’t wait.

New Music from Surf City

You know how much we love Surf City, so much so that we invited the guys to play our infamous SXSW party this past Spring.  During that show they talked to us about releasing their first full-length, and word has finally come out that the band will release said album this November.  The album is called Kudos, and the first single “Crazy Rulers of the World” hints at good things to come in the future.  Give the new track a try, today!

FT5: SXSW Bands I Have To See

What’s that ya say?  SXSW is almost upon us?  Get the F*** out!  With our fancy little music festival we call SXSW coming up in March, I wanted to take a quick look at some of the bands I just gotta see during the upcoming week.  Now obviously I had to stick to a few strict rules here.  For starters, the band has to be one I haven’t seen before.  Two, it has to actually be possible to see the band (sorry STP & Band of Horses).  Three, the band needs to be fairly new with high praises coming from us and others.  I’d say that about does it.  These are bands on the verge of breaking it big in the national scene.  Will they have what it takes to impress me and the snobby Austin music scene with their live shows?  Only time will tell…  Follow the jump for my full list of bands I’ll be waiting in line to see during SXSW.

New Tunes from Surf City

Surf+City+surfcity140A while back we brought you the sweet tunes of Surf City fresh off releasing their first EP, but now the group has more new tunes in the works, and we’re glad to bring you the new tune.  While it takes “Autumn” a few second to wind up, the band let loose once the song gets going, bringing us more than we expected.  Guess we’ll have to wait until 2010 to get more great tunes such as this.

New Tunes from Surf City

surfEveryone seems to love Surf City lately, and they are picking up a lot of press over here in the states, which isn’t entirely rare from a band straight out of Oceania. We, too, are really excited to see what they can come up with when they release their full length to throngs of fans stateside. Here’s just a little sample off their self-titled EP.
