Electro Pop From Vola Tila

While not always my personal style of music, I can always appreciate some electronic pop with a solid beat and driving sound. If you can get behind the style as well, I suggest you check out this banging new track called “Turn Back Time” From Swedish based duo Vola Tila. It reminds me of Drive soundtrack music from Cliff Martinez made more accessible with dark, electronic elements of bands like The XX. I am already looking forward to jamming this one as I drive around town today while pumping my fist in the air.

Vola Tila will be releasing their deput EP Personality Apocalypse in the next few months.

Light Indiepop from The Slow Summits

It’s great when bands find you and send you their work just because they know they’re your ideal style; this is the case for Sweden’s the Slow Summits. They work with that bouncing brand of indiepop that seems so simple, but only succeeds if the execution is spot on. They just dropped their Languid Belles EP; it’s four tracks with understated swagger and a playfulness in the backing vocals that can’t be matched (doesn’t hurt that one of those voices is Amelia Fletcher). I think “A (Hit) to Your Wallet” is currently my favorite of this collection; it has that slight guitar shuffle mixed with quick percussion that reminds me of the Lodger. But, its indiepop so I’ll just go and repeat these tunes all day. Will you do the same?

Kluster Shares New Single, Wild

Swedish act Kluster got a lot of time on this site back in 2018 with the release of their Civic LP…and now they’ve got a brand new single to share. This number definitely shows the band’s songwriting approach, filling in the track with these little twists and turns that take you on little jaunts within the tune itself. Guitars and fuzz weave in and out, but personally, I’m really taken by the build that occurs just after the 3 minute mark; the group vocals quietly rise until the guitars crash in and out noisily before a nice pop wash coats the top and draws the song towards its close. Give it a listen, won’t you.

Azure Blue Share New Electronic Pop Number

Tobias Isaksson seems to be no a roll the last couple of years with his Azure Blue project, settling into a groove of releasing pop gem after pop gem; he released “Shine On” late last year, just a few months after the release of the excellent Fast Falls the Eventide. Quietly, Matinee Recordings has uploaded a new song with the promise of the forthcoming Images of You album. This song features steadied electronic pulses; Tobias excels at layering his sonic bursts atop one another until they seem like one endless pop pulsation. His voice has always had this natural soothing warmth, perfectly fit to his brand of pop…and this tune is no different. Look for the new album to come sooner rather than later, though no official date is out there.

Nervous City Nervous Self

David Josephson set his Nervous City Nervous Self project a lofty goal; he wanted to be Sweden’s Leonard Cohen. But, other than the poetic leanings and the deep vocal tones, Josephson is clearly branding his own pop adventure. There’s this gentle electronic pulse that moves the song forward; it’s right in long with countless other pop songwriters from Sweden…hook laden and easily digestible. A nice little piano touch rounds the track up, fading quietly into your Monday. In the video you get a trio of travels throughout the world, with a character I think we can assume is Josephson itself…watch below to see where he goes!

Cat Princess Share Rocko’s Theme

Swedish act Cat Princess have popped up on this blog before, so I’m sticking to my guns in my appreciation of the group as they drop new single “Rocko’s Theme.” It’s the perfect mixture of all these little musical tidbits that I can’t quite put my finger on, or really figure out why I’m stuck so hard on this song…which is perhaps the best compliment I can give the act. It starts off with this sort of jangling guitar shuffle, opening up into a nice little crooned vocal, almost lounge act in presentation. Suddenly, you’re spun into this world of cult musical stardom like a Hedwig or RHPS; it’s a full on arty performance with just enough hooks to keep you tapping your toes. The band drop their debut on May 17th via Rama Lama Records.

Surfin’ Charlie Bring The Rock

Looking for a quick pick me up on a slow Monday? Look no further than this banger called “Beggars and Buskers” from Swedish based rock n rollers Surfin’ Charlie. This is a short track, clocking in at just under 2 minutes, so you should have plenty of time to give it a chance. You’ll be treated to a loud, old school rock n roll song sure to pep up your day.

The boys in Surfin’ Charlie are working on the release of their debut album due out later this year on Rexius Records.

New Music from Delsbo Beach Club

Still playing a little catch up after being out and about all last week, and of course I’m going to slide right back into the world of Delsbo Beach Club. They seem to have crafted the perfect vibe for the rest of this Monday, giving us a pop song with just enough fuzzy edges to make us swoon. The song carries through with this natural bounce that’s gives seems to match the way the vocals come out, hopping along through the verses with melody hitting at the chorus, swelling as it crests through your speakers. They’ve got the new A Burger in Akersberga EP coming on April 26th via Rama Lama, so slide into these Monday vibes.

Club Pop from Cat Princess

I’m a sucker for a catchy number, particularly if I can imagine myself dancing about amidst a group of friends in some dingy club. Sweden’s Cat Princess are giving me that vibe this morning, throwing slight jangles with just a hint of warmth beneath them; combine that with the percussive element and you have that natural need for a nice dance floor stomp. In the vocals there’s this sense of cool indifference, just sort of bouncing atop the mix to be sure you have something to lock onto when the song ends. The band will be releasing Forbidden Items in May via Rama Lama Records.
