Give Growth a Listen

growthLooks like the Swedish label, Lazy Octopus Records, is going to be my new “it” label…just wrote about Lion’s Den last week, and now they’ve got this great smoky bit of not-pop for you to enjoy from Growth. Guitar here’s kept to a minimum, angular shaking in the background whilst the vocalsunfold in a smoky haze; the latter half of the track sees all musical notes taking on a more discordant vibe. This song features on the group’s upcoming Colour Cut & Clarity EP, which is being released by the label on what’s quickly becoming a packed release day, September 16th.

Stream Shy Mirror’s When Nothing Is Next

shymirrorsA few months back I was excited for you to hear new music from Shy Mirrors, Sweden’s latest purveyors of great poppy punk rock. Now you can stream the entirety of When Nothing Is Next, their latest album. It’s almost like a pop version of Guided by Voices, employing a lot of similar guitar sounds, only with larger hooks for listeners…akin to Austin’s Slow. There’s not a song on this whole record that I didn’t enjoy, and with short tracks, it’s easy to fall in love, then press repeat to start enjoying yourself all over again. Stream it below and get you some!

Nice Electronica From Brodet

13307337_583887571787361_4607132715974937850_nMany of you know that songs such as this one from Brodet aren’t usually my bag, but sometimes the right song comes along and I’m swayed. This one is called “Ultra Friend” and is a sort of murkey and dark bit of pop music. Think bands like The Knife or Fever Ray and you’d be pretty close to the sounds created here. My apologies to the band, my computer won’t let my type or copy an umlaut for some reason….

Expect a new EP from Brodet in September.

Crunchy Rocker from Shy Mirrors

shymirrorsImagine yourself listening to Superchunk really loud. It’s so loud you’ve blown your speakers out, so the sound rattles, sounding a little grittier, a little dirtier than before. Well, that’s exactly what Shy Mirrors new single sounds like, at least to my ears. They just released this brand new little blaster, a tease for those excited about the band’s new work, which is slated for a release later on in 2016. It’s a track with power, yet one with just the slightest hint of catchy hooks, so clearly I can’t turn it off. Neither will you.

More From Summer Heart

unnamedAround a month ago I shared with you fine folks a true gem of a newsingle from Swedish based lo-fi pop group Summer Heart. Today I have even more new music in the form of this single “The Forbidden”. Once again we are treated to a lo-fi, enchanting pop number full of rises and falls. I think it’s time that we all start paying attention to David Alexander and his Summer Heart Project.

Still no word on an official release date for the new EP, but stay tuned.

Agent Bla Hitting the Right Notes

agentThis track from Agent Bla hit the world yesterday with a lot of promise, claiming the band as purveyors of Swedish pop. I’m all in, but I find this song to even go a bit beyond the normal Swedish fare; it’s got that shimmering gleam to it, but there’s a bit more attitude in it than what I come to accustom with the genre. You’ll probably look at it as a youthful vibe, which is fair, considering these are some youngsters, but considering they’ve just signed with Luxury Records, good things should be coming our way soon.

New Single From Summer Heart

unnamed (15)Summer Heart is a Swedish pop group we here at ATH took a liking to last year. Mastermind of the project, David Alexander, creates a very dreamy sort of pop music full of haze and enchanting melodies. Below you can stream his new singled called “Pretty Heart” and make your own comparisons. Alexander will drop a new EP sometime later this year. Stay tuned.

One More From Club 8

club8I figure since we’ve already shared two new Club 8 singles with you over the last couple of months, we should probably go on and share their 3rd single as well.  This one is called “Late Nights” and once again features some super catchy, synth laden house hits sure to entice everyone into a dance frenzy.  Since this is likely their last single prior to the upcoming album release, fans should enjoy this one for the next couple of weeks.

Pleasure is due out November 20th on Labrador Records.

Newish Tune from Animal Daydream

10462486_592441910854860_703342773680514304_nI first heard of Animal Daydream via their EP earlier this year on Jigsaw Records, so I was checking back in on them, doing the rounds, when I found this new tune from them. It’s strange, as the track’s not quite folk rock, yet not quite indiepop…still, there’s something undeniable about it, making it difficult to pull yourself away from it. There’s even a bit of a garage-y jangle that bounces to it, just adding another layer that creates an infectious bit for listeners. Should hopefully have news on a new EP soon, as this was the band’s first hint at what’s to come.

ACL Interview: Amason

amasonCompared to yesterday, I’m already feeling a bit more prepared for ACL coming up in a couple of weekends.  As we do every year, we’ll be working hard trying to interview as many bands will have us leading up to the festival.  Today I’m pumped to be kicking things off with new Swedish super group Amason.  Band member Nils Tornqvist was kind enough to answer a few of my burning questions.  Follow the jump for more.
