Agent Bla Hitting the Right Notes

agentThis track from Agent Bla hit the world yesterday with a lot of promise, claiming the band as purveyors of Swedish pop. I’m all in, but I find this song to even go a bit beyond the normal Swedish fare; it’s got that shimmering gleam to it, but there’s a bit more attitude in it than what I come to accustom with the genre. You’ll probably look at it as a youthful vibe, which is fair, considering these are some youngsters, but considering they’ve just signed with Luxury Records, good things should be coming our way soon.

New Single From Summer Heart

unnamed (15)Summer Heart is a Swedish pop group we here at ATH took a liking to last year. Mastermind of the project, David Alexander, creates a very dreamy sort of pop music full of haze and enchanting melodies. Below you can stream his new singled called “Pretty Heart” and make your own comparisons. Alexander will drop a new EP sometime later this year. Stay tuned.

One More From Club 8

club8I figure since we’ve already shared two new Club 8 singles with you over the last couple of months, we should probably go on and share their 3rd single as well.  This one is called “Late Nights” and once again features some super catchy, synth laden house hits sure to entice everyone into a dance frenzy.  Since this is likely their last single prior to the upcoming album release, fans should enjoy this one for the next couple of weeks.

Pleasure is due out November 20th on Labrador Records.

Newish Tune from Animal Daydream

10462486_592441910854860_703342773680514304_nI first heard of Animal Daydream via their EP earlier this year on Jigsaw Records, so I was checking back in on them, doing the rounds, when I found this new tune from them. It’s strange, as the track’s not quite folk rock, yet not quite indiepop…still, there’s something undeniable about it, making it difficult to pull yourself away from it. There’s even a bit of a garage-y jangle that bounces to it, just adding another layer that creates an infectious bit for listeners. Should hopefully have news on a new EP soon, as this was the band’s first hint at what’s to come.

ACL Interview: Amason

amasonCompared to yesterday, I’m already feeling a bit more prepared for ACL coming up in a couple of weekends.  As we do every year, we’ll be working hard trying to interview as many bands will have us leading up to the festival.  Today I’m pumped to be kicking things off with new Swedish super group Amason.  Band member Nils Tornqvist was kind enough to answer a few of my burning questions.  Follow the jump for more.

Don’t Cry Shopgirl Have a New 7″

11188248_630700463730740_2341388002965267490_nThis is not a Tom Hanks referencing post (wait, too late). Instead, it’s meant to reflect the exciting news coming out of Sweden this week that there will be a new 7″ from Don’t Cry Shopgirl. The song opens as a pretty synth-driven testament, with layered electronic stabs bursting in at varying times. Still, you can hear the angular guitar work that’s popularized in the genre, which never fails to win me over. Luckily, the 7″ looks to be an EP, as there are 4 songs listed; it’ll come out soon via the dependable Cloudberry Records…I’ll keep you posted on the date.

The Sweet Serenades Return!

11214163_10152816276992126_3343084195886037801_nI’ve been talking about Swedish group The Sweet Serenades for some time now and I’m overly excited to hear about their return to the music making world.  Our new single from the band, “Come Out and Play”, is a sort of Springsteen-esque, driving pop tune complete with shiny vocals and even a slick ass guitar solo towards the end.  Yet again this band does a whole lot of good while making it all seem effortless.

Mark your calendars for the release of Animals on October 10th.

Indiepop Magic from Red Sleeping Beauty

alwaysWhat!? 15 years later and Red Sleeping Beauty come back to the indiepop scene with one of my favorite tracks of the summer?! As soon as I pressed play on this track, I knew I was in love. It’s got a pretty simple synth line opening the track, pushing the song forward as the vocals make their way into your ears.  Niklas has the perfect voice too to make the song reach those maximum heights of pop melody.  I’m sorry but this song is just fucking brilliant; I’m probably going to play it all day long. Look for this track to appear on a new 7″ for Shelflife on September 11th.

Introducing: Moon Types

moonieAnother day, another great song coming to you from Jigsaw Records. This time the label has teamed up with new Swedish act Moon Types, and dammit if these aren’t some of the enjoyable indiepop songs I’ve come across in the last few weeks.  I like how there’s a Southern rambling in the execution of the guitar chords, accompanied by these great male/female vocal pieces that perfect the purity of pop songwriting. They’ll be releasing their Know the Reason 7″ later this summer, so keep your eyes peeled for your new favorite Swedish band.

New To You: Rheya

rheyaOn occasion, when looking for new tunes to share with you all, I find a song that’s more than a few days old that’s simply too good to ignore. Such was the case when I stumbled across Swedish band Rheya and their soft, yet gorgeous dream pop. As soon as you press play on “Franchise,” you’ll understand; the sound that comes out of your speakers will remind you of an even dreamier and lusher Wild Nothing. Simply put, I’ve had this song on repeat all day and it’s time you did too: the balance of each music element melts into each other seamlessly and with such allure that it’s impossible not to sway/shimmy along with this tune.
