We’re in the midst of the fest, but still have time to check out some stuff that we really love, like Honey I’m Home. The Dutch outfit are playing our Welcome to the Jangle Party this Sunday at 29th Street Ballroom/Tweedys, so they were kind enough to answer some questions to get some extra info about the band and their work. Maybe you thought we were done previewing bands for SXSW this week? Well maybe you thought wrong! We were not quite finished with all of our previews and have one more for you today coming from Australian based upstarts Hachiku. It’s hard to pigeon-hole Brooklyn outfit Two Man Giant Squid; they often change directions from song to song, and sometimes within the songs themselves, as in the case of last year’s “Weird Recordings.” I think that’s what makes them great for a festival like SXSW, as they can lock into a groove or a set, and manipulate the audience depending upon the vibe…or maybe they show up and melt faces. Think you’ll be satisfied either way. And, if you don’t know about them, check out our brief interview below!
The end of this week will see the official kickoff of SXSW, which brings tons of bands and tech companies and movies to our town, so we’ve been trying to highlight some of the acts on the music side. This round, we get to lock into a Texas artist, Semiwestern, coming at us from about 3.5 hours North. There’s a full-length from the artist slated for later this year, and perhaps you’ll get a chance to taste some of his Italian cookies!
Who doesn’t love a good pop rock outfit from Scotland? Certainly not us, and certainly not you! Vistas are the latest Scottish outfit to bring huge choruses and big riffs overseas to SXSW. They’ll soon be releasing Everything Changes in the End, so let’s get to know the band a little bit before they hit the States…and before they drop that LP!
If you thought our SXSW interviews were anywhere near over, man are you totally wrong. Nathan and I went crazy this year and sent these things out to tons of bands we admire and respect. Heck with still several days until music kicks off next week, I think we’re already over our total number of interviews from last year. Gotta hustle. You are probably aware already that I’m a huge fan of RVG. If you’re lucky enough to catch the Aussie act on their brief US jaunt, then you’re in for a treat. Their album A Quality of Mercy was a stunner, and to those who spent time with it, it sounds like everything pop music was meant to be. We caught up real briefly with the group to have them answer our little SXSW interview, which is below with their most recent video.
Last year at SXSW there were a couple of acts that I constantly chased around, trying to catch them as many times as I could. This year, one of the bands on that must see list is Ne-Hi. We’ve got a brief little interview with the band, and we’ve included their SXSW dates below, so you can chase them around just like me! They’ll be playing tons of jams, I hope, off their recent album, Offers…just in case you haven’t checked it out yet.
SXSW is underway, though the music won’t kick off til next Tuesday. That being said, we’re going to continue rolling out interviews leading up to the fest, with this one coming from Laucan. The London songwriter just released his Up Tomorrow EP (stream it after the jump!) via Sunday Best, and he’ll be playing at their showcase over at Valhalla on March 17th. Read more
