You think we’d sleep on another up-and-coming Melbourne act? Think not, especially when it comes to churning guitar pop like Quivers present to us here. There’s a classic alternative sound to this track, something that’s faintly reminiscent of early U2 or REM, though they’ve reworked the style to fit right into today’s musical landscape. I love the sharp guitar stabs that shine through your speakers, and you don’t have to get me started on the vocal harmonies that float throughout the entirety of the single. They fill this track with so much delicate musicianship that I keep going back and hearing little chords or melodies that I hadn’t heard the first time, so please, give this at least 12 listens. Oh, and did I mention they’ll be at SXSW?
As if you thought I’d let Nathan have all the fun with this SXSW interview game, you thought wrong! It’s time for me to start sharing some interviews myself and I’m starting today with one from Auckland based band Swallow the Rat. These guys were kind enough to answer or SXSW band questions and you can find their responses after the jump.
Criminal Hygiene is an L.A. based band we have known for many years after meeting at SXSW one year and doing a show together afterwards. Well the guys went quiet for a few years after that, but have returned this year with a ton of new music and a new album on the way. Their latest single “Dangers of Convenience” can be found below and features the always enticing garage rock, in your face style which is what caused me to originally be turned on to the band. I’m happy for the boys to hop on to major label Dangerbird to release the new album Run it Again on March 1st.
Our SXSW Interview series is in full swing, and we’ve got to push on, as we have a little less than a month until we reach the festival. Today we’ve got responses from LA duo Soft Streak, who also just happen to be releasing their brand new EP today as well…so congrats on that!

Every year, we gather with our frienemies over at Side One Track One, and throw down a huge show over at Hotel Vegas/Volstead. As is the case every year, we have 30 bands from all over Austin, and a few on the ATH Records roster. When we set up this years show, we wanted to make sure the bands all had new music on the way in 2019…and that seems to be the case. The ATH IT Department has a combo. We are sharing the brand new track from Auragraph, a solo project from Hector Carlos Ramirez. Hector has worked with several familiar names; Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein and S U R V I V E, Josh Mills of Missions. He is part of the resurgence in the analog synth sounds that have been so welcomed by myself and many electronic music fans for bringing back a lo-fi honesty to creation of waveforms and beats. We also have a little Q&A for you by following the jump after the video for the song “Polywave” via Outer Limits Records.
