SXSW Tuesday In Photos

While Nathan was jet setting around on Monday, Tuesday was my first full day into the SXSW madness. Both of us started early with a focus solely on unofficial and sort of off the beaten path shows for the day. I stuck around the campus area at Tweedy’s and Hole in the Wall while Nathan headed over to the east side. We’ll be giving you a full recap of band highlights and photos later this week and on into next, but I thought ya’ll might want to see what it’s like out there, especially as weather and other factors may come into play as the week carries on. But, some bands were unable to back out in protest, so we’re here to point you towards one of those acts, Corridor, who recently have signed up with Sub Pop for their new LP, Mimi. Before things get really wild in ATX next week, we are pumped to be a part of this amazing Vinyl Market going down on Saturday at Oddwood Brewing from 11am til 4pm. We have a ton of great vendors this time around who will be selling all sorts of LPs, 45s, and ephemera at unbeatable prices. To make this a more SXSW themed kick off party, we’ll also have some musicians playing outside on the patio while DJs and records are going inside. Meet the SXSW Band: Otto Aday

And here you were thinking we might just slow down for these last few days in build up to next week… WRONG! Holiday Ghosts Share Big Congratulations

I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally catch Holiday Ghosts when they wash ashore for SXSW, especially now that there’s a hot new track from the group making the rounds. For me, the guitar line and its little hip-shaking jangle had me instantly; I’ll admit that it sounded a bit more Australian in nature…not that I mind that one bit. But, the song’s success comes in the constant thump of the drums, pushing the track’s agenda with this bopping tap that makes it one hell of a ditty. Plus, you don’t dare tell me that you’re not going to fawn over dueling vocal harmonies as they exist here? Yea, you won’t! Coat of Arms is out via Fat Cat on March 29th.

We’re getting down to those last few days of build up to SXSW next week, and the ATH is going to try and squeeze in as much pre-coverage as we can before signing off on Monday. For those of you who prefer listening over reading our SXSW interviews, we’ve combed through most all the bands on the festival list and made a huge playlist of bands we suggest. Of course, we may have missed something so feel free to blast us if you’re favorite didn’t make the playlist and maybe, just maybe, we’ll add it in.

Meet the SXSW Band: Smut

But, I haven’t caught them live as of yet, so they’re definitely high upon my list for acts I’d love to see in an intimate setting.
