The madness that is SXSW is upon us, and as we ready ourselves and our livers, we’ve got another interview featuring one of our favorite bands, The Mary Onettes. The Swedish act has had mild success in the States, but their new music is really building a solid name for the band over here, so we hope that this little introduction encourages you to get on board with us. As we pump out more interviews leading up to SXSW, let us not forget our local friends who will be working hard all over town just like everyone else. One of our favorite up and comers in Austin has be garage/blues band Ghost Wolves. Drummer and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Konya was kind enough to offer up his opinion on all things SXSW. Ah, yes, it’s time for the Suicide Squeeze Singles to start rolling out, and they’re starting with a bang. Their new series begins with a split between ATH favorites Shannon and the Clams and Guantanamo Baywatch. Last time I heard from GB, they were rocking a sweaty punk style, but this new jam seems like the perfect fit for a shared 7″ with Shannon. It’s a country-tied garage jam with a slow pace and lyrics that will allow you optimal sing-a-long fun. This single will hit stores on April 29th, but you can catch the band playing throughout Austin during SXSW, including the SS Party with our friends at Hardly Art on March 14th.

We here at ATH tend to stay away from overloading you with information about SXSW parties, shows, free booze, etc. If you need that sort of info, I’d recommend showlistaustin or maybe even Do512. Now what we will do is post about a show when shameless self-promotion is needed. Today’s SXSW Interview comes to you via Brazilian band, Boogarins. While the country is often known for its tropicalia and dance stylings, you’ll get something a little bit different from these lads; they’ve got a composition that compiles varying elements of loops and sounds into a tightly-knit piece of psych-pop for their album As Plantas Que Curam..a must listen in my book. We caught up with Wyatt Shears, one of the dudes in The Garden. The band is one of the many acts celebrating the extremely hard work of Burger Records. Today we’re going to bring you a bit of info on the act Coeds. They’ve previously popped up on our radar before with some coverage from B. Gray, bu we wanted to go a little further in-depth for their SXSW preparation. Click on for responses from the band’s Meredith Munoz.
Fletcher C. Johnson reminds me a lot of Nobunny, in some manner. They have a similar vocal delivery, though FCJ seems to have his own approach on things, adding a bit more sheen and twang to it. It makes sense, as they’ve got relatives in Texas, so that’s kind of cool.
