We caught up with Wyatt Shears, one of the dudes in The Garden. The band is one of the many acts celebrating the extremely hard work of Burger Records. After reading over their answers, you can jam to a song off a limited Halloween Cassette, plus check out a few of their dates as they head into town.
With our SXSW interview extravaganza, it’s only fair that we do some coverage of up-and-coming Austin acts who are making a name for themselves, right? Today we’re going to bring you a bit of info on the act Coeds. They’ve previously popped up on our radar before with some coverage from B. Gray, bu we wanted to go a little further in-depth for their SXSW preparation. Click on for responses from the band’s Meredith Munoz.
Fletcher C. Johnson reminds me a lot of Nobunny, in some manner. They have a similar vocal delivery, though FCJ seems to have his own approach on things, adding a bit more sheen and twang to it. It makes sense, as they’ve got relatives in Texas, so that’s kind of cool.
As we prepare for SXSW, let us not forgot all of the great local bands that will be performing all over town that week. I know some of us Austinites tend to stay away from our local friends since we see them so much during the year, but let’s at least promote their greatness to the world. If it needs to be said again, I’m a huge fan of L.A. based rockers Criminal Hygiene and their noisey, gritty, punk rock twanged sound. I believe my fandom began around this time last year when I was jamming the band’s debut, self-titled LP. Then SXSW came, and the band secured my allegiance with their high energy and raucous live show. So with all of that out of the way, the point of the post is to share with you this incredible new track by the band called “Withdrawn”. I’m hearing a bit of a more polished and focused sound from the band here, but of course they haven’t lost their punk edge. Personally, I think this is a tune that shows us a band who can really make something of themselves in the future. I’m in.
This track is on a new EP of same name that can either be streamed on bandcamp or purchased via vinyl format from Cultist.

Long have we supported the New York’s Dead Stars, so as they prepare to head into Austin for a few days of rock n’ roll at SXSW, we thought it best to give you a quick introduction to the band before you decide that you’ll be better off including them in your viewing plans. Read on for the band’s answers to our thought-provoking questions.
We’ve been covering Aan for some time, and it seems only fitting that we offer up this latest tune of theirs to close out our Friday offerings. This tune comes from their Amor Ad Nauseum effort, which is available now. It’s filled with lofty songwriting, soaring vocals, and an organic structure that reminds me an awful lot of Snowmine . The Portland act has won over pretty much everyone in their homebase, and it looks like with a big tour lined up-including SXSW-they’ll be happily spreading their tunes to all of us outside the Beaver State.
