CBVB Releases Golden Country Single

If you’re looking to stumble upon a classic bit of pop rock, might we encourage you to listen to the latest single from Craig Benedict Valentine Badynee or CBVB? This fresh single just dropped via Team Love, and the whole song just feels like a motto for the Sunshine State, despite Craig operating out of Chicago. It’s a mixture of classic rock tones from the guitars and bounding barroom piano, but those sweet vocals definitely take on this crooning pop charm; CBVB has this magnificent way of rounding out the final syllables into these little sugary nuggets. There’s an accompanying tune that fits right into the Americana meets pop style too, with perhaps a little more hipness added in, reminding me of our old pal Abram Shook and Feverbones. New single available today!

Check Out New Singles from CBVB

After retreating to raise a family, former Pas/Cal member Craig BV Badynee is ready to make his return to the music biz, and he’s doing so with two pretty striking new tunes, courtesy of Team Love Records. His solo work as CBVB sounds an awful lot like the sophisticated pop you’d get from a Jarvis Cocker or Richard Hawley. Verses and arrangements are built around bits of swagger and rock n’ roll histrionics, while there’s a classiness that supersedes all the cool. While the arrangement in “The New Richter Waltz” drew me in, the vocal performance on “Grumbling Bellies” cemented my joy in listening; there’s a lot of playfulness in the tones that I found really rewarding.

More Playful Pop from Shana Falana

shanaI’m digging what I’m hearing from Shana Falana, as this new single offers a bit of a different turn on the New York project. Here, we have a drifting bit of pop with this groove that opens the track, setting the scene for the vocals to casually float through your speakers. It takes the chorus a bit to arrive, but when it does I love the steadying vocal delivery, almost like stepping in time with the rolling drum beat. Here Comes the Wave is being released on October 21st via Team Love Records, and looks to be an adventure in writing pop music…one that I’ll surely enjoy.

Darkened Pop Tune from Shana Falana

shanaFor the last few years, I’ve fawned over Wax Idols, and now we’ve got another kindred spirit spinning dark-tinged pop music, Shana Falana. It’s this heavy brooding, as if it’s been recorded in some hollow garage, with the volume ruffling the cones on your speaker just enough. Still, you’ll be sucked into this track, drenched in pop sensibilitythat only comes from the most innermost caverns of your soul. The new album from the project is titled Here Comes the Wave, and it’s being handled by Team Love Records for an October 21st release.

Quirky Pop From iji

unnamedWe ATH kids have a thing for pop music, especially pop music that might be a little bit on the weird side. Today we are treated to a bit of quirky pop music with this new single “Summer of 2069” via Seattle based pop group iji. The vocals here remind me a bit of Destroyer, while the music is almost like early Of Montreal. This is good stuff.

iji will drop Bubble on July 29th via Team Love Records.

Joe Pernice Joins with Budo of Macklemore

rogersI spend the majority of my year teaching 13 year olds, so maybe this is the day (even though school’s out) when our musical tastes finally meet.  I’ve been a huge Joe Pernice fan for some time, though he’s had a few hits and misses here and there, but I was surprised he decided to work with Macklemore‘s Budo.  It just doesn’t fit, and yet it does.  The thing is, what matters most is the music, and the collaboration of Roger Lion definitely is successful.  Budo’s production creates the perfect soundscape for Pernice’s unique voice to come in to play.  Just imagine the old DJ Shadow working with one of your favorite singers.  The duo will release their Roger Lion album on September 18th without ever having met in person…or so the story goes.

Shana Falana Brings You a Hook

shanaRemember when we all fell in love with Best Coast (don’t lie, you know you did)? Well, now that that group has faded into the distance, there have to be acts to replace it.  I like Shana Falana for the part; the New York artist even offers a little bit more of a distinct sound, filling in more of the negative space with dreamier notes that go beyond classic alternate-girl fare. This single has a forcefulness, using guitar melody that twists and turns throughout.  Look for Team Love to release her album Set Your Lightning Fire Free on April 7th.

More Music from Quarterbacks

QUARTERBACKS-by-david-grimaldi-2There’s one record on the horizon that I think everyone is going to love; it’s the newest self-titled album from Quarterbacks.  You’re not going to find an album full over-indulgence, but instead you’ll get a ton of short songs, each delighting in its own way.  There’s hints of jangling pop in there, which you know I love, but there’s also a passion in the songwriting that really makes the whole record rather uplifting.  I guarantee this will be a hit for you all; look for the LP on February 10th from Team Love Records.

More Fun Hits from Quarterbacks

quarterbacksI just can’t stop listening to this record.  The songs are quick and to the point, yet they’re always infectious, getting stuck in your head.  But, like the song below, they’re all fairly short, so the listen isn’t daunting by any means; it’s refreshing in fact, blasting through with fun hooks in under 30 minutes.  I implore you to look beyond perceived simplicity in the lyrics and just indulge in what’s been a great surprise from Quarterbacks.  They’re self-titled album will be in stores on February 10th courtesy of Team Love Records.

Nerd Pop from Quarterbacks

qbsThis song’s been all over the Internet the last few days, so why not let your week get wrapped up with this undeniably catchy little bit of pop from Quarterbacks.  At first listen, the vocals imply that the track prescribes to modern jangle-pop touches, but the guitars aren’t quite that clean and angular, allowing for the band to create their own little musical space.  Honestly, the tune reminds me of the music I listened to during my early college years when I was a young uber twee fan, though the band still has tricks up their sleeve with the slow drawn closing. Look for their debut LP on February 10th via Team Love Records.
