The Laughing Chimes Share New Music

We were out and about on Friday when these fresh tracks from the Laughing Chimes dropped, and as always, the young band have an intoxicating sound that continues to blossom and wear varying shades. You get one fresh tune, and one that’s a cover of The Ocean Blue‘s “Ballerina Out of Control.” On their new tune, press notes jangling sounds with gothic undertones; I can hear bits and pieces of Felt in the guitar sound, and any number of darkened goth voices to spin in the vocal presentation. In terms of the cover, I love the way the vocal turns lighter, reflective and light, working to fit perfectly in between the sharp notes that ring from the guitar. It feels like trio is onto something really really special, so hopefully their label Slumberland keeps us in the loop!

Lost Track from The Ocean Blue

I wonder how many bands out there have “lost tracks”? I’m sure it’s hard to sit down in a studio and see what fits with the feeling of an album, but I’m definitely glad that The Ocean Blue offered up this lost gem from their early years on Sire Records. This track celebrates a band that’s been knocking around since the 1980s, and celebrates their hard work with their first label; they’ll be re-releasing those first three albums on vinyl today. Whether its the production or the influence of their sound, but I can definitely see this track fitting nicely inside some modern indie rock playlists…they were just another band clearly ahead of their time. Grab those re-issues from Shelflife or Korda today!

Sparkling New Track From The Ocean Blue

Earlier this year, The Ocean Blue released their latest album Ultramarine on Korda Records to much critical acclaim. Right off the heels of that LP, the band has yet another track they’ve just made available over on soundcloud. The tune is called “No Money in That” and features this sparkly sort of jazz like feel that seems to get better with every listen.

Korda Records is putting out a 12 song compilation next week that’s available for pre-order right now.
