Last Week’s Jams (11.18 – 11.22)

There were a lot of jams, and there wasn’t a lot of time, and all that to say, I still got an excuse to write about the new Cistern EP, with it’s banging opening track included below. Prism Shores continued to shell out hits, while Austin act SKLOSS return with news of their signing to Fuzz Club Records. The Rishis dropped in some delightful psychedelic pop, if that’s your bag, and if not, well maybe you get a little folk on your feet and crank up new Will Johnson for our ears. We also brought out some slow jams from Clara Ziegler and Disarme, among others, so all your feels are here below. Just press play.

Three Quarter Skies Offers Superwoman Single

When listening to the latest single from Three Quarter Skies, it should come as no surprise to you that the band is the project of Slowdive’s Simon Scott, particularly as this feels like an adjacent shadow, fading in and out of the light. Notes bend and warp on the front of the mix, with percussive elements reverberating to create this shimmering aura that drenches the track in this musical dampness. From there, you can hear the vocals weaving in and out of the cavernous world, notes bouncing off the wall and down the hall, only to reach your ears seconds later. Out today via Sonic Cathedral, with a remix by some Sonic Boom character from the early days of Sega Genesis.

Last Week’s Jams (7.15 – 7.19)

After a rather mellow preceding week, this past one hit hard with some bigs hits for us on our end. We took some time out to reach out to our friend Andy from Chime School, grabbed a quick interview and a vegan chili recipe. Fell in love with a couple of great new pop tunes from the likes of Sassyhiya and Sumos, plus that Casual Technicians wasn’t too shabby either. Repped some album love for Crack Cloud, Manners Manners, Julia Sophie, Immortal Nightbody, Red Jacket and Nightshift too. Plus, good solid Austin contingent getting love with new music from Being Dead, Hallo and Blood (Austin adjacent, right?). Dig in and find a cool tune below.

Three Quarter Skies Share Leave a Light On

Simon Scott’s name is going to carry a lot of weight into his Three Quarter Skies project, and rightfully so, as the drummer for Slowdive is building something that certainly feels adjacent to his other work. This song feels like a light rainstorm rolling in off the ocean, as you can see/hear the clouds from miles away, but when they arrive via the vocals, they’re lighter, merely rinsing you with emotion rather than pummeling you with thunderous rain drops. It’s the sort of storm where you just sit in it, grateful to be alive as your body is washed by this musical piece, all the textures of the world circling about. Fade In will be released on September 6th via Sonic Cathedral.

Last Week’s Jams (6.10 – 6.14)

Consider yourselves lucky! Three of the song’s I wrote about didn’t make DSPs yet, otherwise, you’d have a two hour playlist of joy to listen through today. Luckily, Australia was keeping it real, with new stuff from The Male Gays, Pop Filter, Kosmetika and Alluvial Nuggets all gracing the site. There was some Austin show coverage too, namely Mikky & the Doom and Adrianne Lenker, so jams from those acts get included. On the personal tip, I was really pulling for the Manners Manners and Nightshift to be big hits out there in the scene, with this new Parallel tune right behind it! There’s also some expansive jams too from the likes of Immersion and Nap Eyes, if you need a tune over 5 minutes for your life. Enjoy.

Three Quarter Skies Drops New Single

If you haven’t heard of Three Quarter Skies, but consider yourself a Slowdive fan, well, this is drummer Simon Scott’s new project. Today they’ve shared the latest single, and it’s the perfect vibe to just lose yourself inside, if that’s your sort of thing. There’s this slowly ebbing wall of atmosphere that builds for the first minute (plus), anchored by a stark percussive element; you can almost see the melding of sounds and colors before you as the tune plays. When the vocals come into the picture, they take on this sort of shadowy quality, which can be a bit disorienting; it does feel as if it moves with the shifts that coincide with the track itself. Available today through Sonic Cathedral.
