Good Morning Drop Two New Singles

It seems like our pals in Melbourne based Good Morning have been a mainstay on these pages for many years now and we always eagerly await new music from the band. Imagine the excitement when today we got word of not one, but two new singles as part of a new double release through their label Polyvinyl. The first track, “dog years,” features that familiar, jangly sound from the lads while the second track “queen of comedy,” is a more somber and mellow tune. Somehow both compliment each other beautifully.

And hey! Good Morning are coming to Austin later this month with Frankie Cosmos at Mohawk. Tickets are available now.

Show Preview: Luna Play Two Nights @ 3 Ten ACL (11.9 & 11.10)

It’s been a busy year for Dean Wareham, having released I Have Nothing to Say earlier this year. But, now it looks like he’s focusing on Luna, bringing Britta, Sean and Lee to Austin for a two night special over at 3 Ten ACL. The calendar has the band playing Bewitched in its entirety on one night, and Penthouse on the next, though having seen the band in the past, I’m sure they’ll have some bleed over for other tunes…or at least that’s what I’m hoping for! Plus, our friends in Caroline Says will be opening up the show, so we should be able to ease our way into the evening with some great opening vibes. You can grab yourself tickets HERE. Stream both albums below…and fingers crossed maybe this entices the band to write a new LP!

Sound On Sound Fest Lineup + Location

dd9b6895-8024-4a3e-88a6-a597291f3e5cSince the announcement of founding fathers Graham Williams and James Moody breaking off from Transmission Entertainment to start their company Margin Walker, we’ve all been awaiting the lineup and location for their new festival Sound on Sound. Well the wait is over today, and I’ve gotta say, this thing is super impressive with how fast they put it together. We of course love Beach House, Descendents, Wild Nothing, METZ, etc. etc. etc. I’m personally crapping my pants for Thursday! Just like Fun Fest use to deliver, this lineup gives a little something for everyone to enjoy and rivals all other festival lineups in town. Full lineup is attached on poster or via Sound on Sound’s website.

As far as location goes, Sound on Sound will take place at Sherwood Forest Faire just East of Austin in McDade, Texas.

Three day tickets are currently on sale via soundonsoundfest.com.

Show Preview: A Night with Low @ the Parish (2.9)

lowTwenty years on and Low are still making some of the most important tunes of the indie rock genre. Their evolution since I Could Live in Hope and Long Division up until last year’s drastically overlooked Ones & Sixes illustrates the work the group has done to build their own sound and stretch the limits of expectations. Luckily for all of us, the band will be playing the whole night on their own, so there’s no telling what treats we will be given by the band. Tickets from the Parish are still available HERE, and the doors will open up at 8 PM…so you can expect a long evening of the most glorious music, and still make it home in time for proper rest.

Win Tix to Learning Secrets 11th Anniversary w/ Todd Edwards (11.17)

LS_ToddEdwards2It’s always great to live in a city where the artistic or musical vision of is celebrated, and more so, that it continues to survive.  So, with that in mind, we’re giving out a pair of tickets to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of Learning Secrets…the party-throwing, dance aficionados of our fair city.  Like they always do, they’re throwing a huge shindig with legendary Todd Edwards DJing.  You might know Todd from his work with little known acts like Daft Punk; this is a dance party you don’t want to miss. It’s being held at Kingdom, and you can win tickets by leaving a comment with your favorite beverage (and an email). I’ll pick the winner when the contest closes at 11:59 PM Thursday. Good luck!

Doors are at 10 PM — Buy Tickets HERE.

ATH & ACL: 5 Bands to Watch

acl2014It is time.  Though it’s hard for me to believe, it’s time for us to start gearing up for yet another ACL Festival in October.  ATH has done this thing a few times now so we feel like we’ve earned the right to offer a little bit of advice about bands to see and the proper way to go about attending.  I’m jumping off our coverage today with a list of 5 bands I think you should see over the 2 weekend event.  As a disclaimer, I typically recommend bands that many people either don’t know very well or write off for whatever reason.  So yeah go see Spoon & The Replacements for sure, but let’s not forget about the underdogs.  Let it begin after the jump.

Leonard Cohen @ The Long Center 4/1 & 4/2

lennyLet’s face it, there really isn’t a better show in town this week. If you are nearing the end of your life, wouldn’t you like to say that you were there when Leonard Cohen played the Long Center in Austin? Sure, tickets may be a bit much, but you can’t go wrong with buying one of these. I mean, really, you can pay your bills next month, but Leonard only comes to Austin once in a lifetime, so live it up with Leonard this week.
