Killer Track From CYMBALS

In the usual melange of trolling for tracks, it’s rare that you click play on a new song and know instantly that you’ve found a real gem. “Decay,”from CYMBALS, is the perfect blend of shoe gaze and dance pop– think Slowdive meets The Radio Dept with a splash of The XX thrown in there. You get the building percussion throughout, but also some string work threaded in, as well as the omnipresent effervescent synths that spiral and transform kaleidoscopically. Plus you get some twangy and distant guitar to put the icing on the cake. Simply put, this track is at once beautiful and danceable and makes me beyond excited to hear what CYMBALS have in store for us on their upcoming record, Light In Your Mind, which will be out August 25th via Tough Love Records. Pre-order it here.

More New Girls Names

girlsgirlsgirlsAdmittedly, I think I’m partial to the Girls Names debut, Dead to Me.  There was something in the simplicity of the songwriting that the band now seems to have discarded for the most part.  Their newest single, like their 11 minute 12″ tune from earlier this year, goes beyond simplicity, filling in space with sonic exploration.  Still, what I’m liking from this new effort is the band’s adherence to pop tropes within the confines of their new direction; while it borders on a touch too long, there’s still evidence of a pop song in every moment. It’s our first listen to the band’s new album, Arms Around a Vision, which will be out in October via Tough Love.

Fresh Jams from Cocktails

artworks-000076609654-3ntc1m-t500x500Ah. The great power of good old rock and roll.  Last night this track from Cocktails came into my inbox, and I’ve been rocking out to it ever since.  They’ve just wrapped up their new album, Adult Love, prepping it for a June 17th release date via our friends at Father Daughter Records.  The San Fran band recorded this gem with Rob Wood, who works in Warm Soda, so it’s no surprise that this is power-pop of the best sort.  You’ll find a solid melody working its way throughout the track, and enough energy to help you make it through the next hour as you continuously press repeat.  Let’s all rejoice in classic pop rock sounds!
