Cool Ghouls Share Feel Like Getting High Video

I’ll admit, I don’t spend too much time delving into the modern psychedelia these days; I feel like I got burnt out real quickly on the sound. But, one group that has always had a soft spot, particularly with their latest At George’s Zoo LP, is the Cool Ghouls. RayRay and I love that band, perhaps because they flirt a little bit more with kind of the folk-y side of psychedelia, as opposed to the heavier sort. This week they dropped a video for “Feel Like Getting High,” though it debuted a day after 4/20…but that’s another matter. The tune’s on their latest LP, and they’ve got a stint planned for the West Coast in June, so if you’re out that way, get on it…and if not, just enjoy the new LP, courtesy of Empty Cellar.

Wombo Drop New Single

On the heels of their Keesh Mountain EP, Wombo return with a brand new single…and a tour announcement. I love that the band describes this tune as “the balance between chaos and structure;” it definitely fits with my listening habits. The guitars throughout the song do have that dangerous edge, particularly when the song opens up. But, it’s Sydney Chadwick’s voice that drives the song, letting the guitars and drums work around to create the balancing act while she steadies the ship. Just a really solid tune with these slow burning riffs and smoky vibes that easily sedate you as you kick back and immerse yourself in their latest jam. They’ll be kicking off a nice tour in March of next year that starts at SXSW, then sort of bounces around the middle of the States, so keep an eye out.

Stream War Tuna from The Lochness Mobsters

It’s been a pretty good month for ATH Records, with our releases of Rose Selavy/Templo X split 7″, the Ocean Party announcement, and of course, the debut of The Lochness Mobsters. Things rolled along pretty quickly, and while the Austin trio is out on the road, we wanted to make sure the rest of you folks were able to hear their excellent debut, War Tuna. There’s touches of surf, garage, soul, pop, garage, and ultimately just good times. You can stream the jams below, and grab your own copy on all white vinyl HERE or HERE. SXSW Interviews: Spanish Prisoners
