Cootie Catcher Release Friend of a Friend

I remember back when I first heard Los Campesino’s; they had this vibrancy that shown through their songs, giving off this energy that was supremely infectious and you couldn’t turn away. Cootie Catcher is the twee answer to the aforementioned act, laying ground work for joyous indiepop that’s meant to be the earworm you didn’t know you needed today. The percussive element provides a natural movement that pushes the track’s agenda; they begin to build the layered vocals pretty quickly, and that’s when I fell in love. It’s not a trick or ploy, just some great songwriting with enough risks to make the band interesting. If you’re digging it, then be sure to keep an eye out for Shy At First, out March 5th via Cooked Raw.

Lil’ Hospital Returns with Revenge of Lil Hospital

First, let’s take a moment to celebrate Kevin’s birthday. Happy Birthday Kevin. Second, who is Kevin? Well Kevin is one of our favorite songwriters (see Kevin Hairs), but he’s returned to use his Lil Hospital moniker for a quick little release that I missed on Friday. It’s self-described lo-fi twee, but it employs the typical Kevin quirks, like undeniable hooks naturally creeping through your speakers. Of course, they do get a little extra bit of fuzzy noise to hide behind on this go round. It’s honestly like Wavves, if that band was playing for me instead of all the indie bros out there. So yeah…jam these songs and enjoy Revenge of Lil Hospital.

New Twee Goodness From Free Time

1827

Melbourne is quickly growing into the new Brooklyn as a hot bed for up and coming indie bands with solid tunes.  The sound is obviously a more twee influence when compared to the punk or experimental side of Brooklyn, but you get what I mean.  This new song “Nothing But Nice” comes our way from the recently formed group Free Time.  It’s eerily similar to ATH approved, and fellow Aussies, Twerps.  You know we can dig that.

Free Time have a self-titled release coming your way in the states on May 28th via Underwater Peoples.

New Jangly Pop From Paul Davies

Here’s a catchy little twee-pop tune called “Isobelle” from London based songwriter Paul Davies.  It’s a fun song that seems to be growing a place in my brain as I listen to it more and more.  If nothing else, you’ll surely be put in a better mood after listening.

Paul has a new EP entitled If You Only Knew currently streaming over on his Soundcloud page.

New Music from The Orchids

I’ve fallen in love with The Orchids over the past several years, so I’m glad my special order of their latest album, The Lost Star, finally came in the mail.  I haven’t spent a lot of time talking about this band, but rest assured that those of you in the know of twee pop will surely adore their work.  Now, for me, twee doesn’t have a negative connotation; it means sincerity combined with honest pop, and that’s always where my heart has been at.  Give The Orchids a chance here, and make sure to check out their back catalog if you dig the new stuff.  This isn’t going to let you down.
