Pop Filter Share Undertow

A little over ten days to go before Pop Filter drop their brand new track, and they want to drag you right into the experience of CONO by hitting you with “Undertow.” It’s immediately going to grab you, opening with a racing rhythm section, using snappy drum work and a bassline that seduces you instantly. It doesn’t stop there, as the band race through the tune, dropping discordant noise in throughout as they seem intent on rushing you through the song as fast as they can. Little bit of saxophone helps the song fade out and still throw its weight behind the pop sensibility! CONO is out on December 1st, but it’s already SOLD OUT, so hopefully there’s a repress!

New Music from Will Johnson

I’ve admittedly supported the work of Will Johnson through his various projects, and now that he’s prepping a new LP, I’m here to make sure you know all about it. This particular single has a bit of a crunchy riff that drives it forward, akin to some of Johnson’s work in Centromatic, but there’s a slight brightness in the way he opens the chords up to listeners, matched by the fragility of his distinctive voice. As the song progresses through its five (plus) minutes there’s a lot going on beneath the main mix, but I always come back to just how powerfully emotive Will’s voice is. Can’t wait for you all to hear Hatteras Night, a Good Luck Charm on March 24th when Undertow releases it unto the world.

David Bazan Still Has It

bazan1While meandering around the internet yesterday, I went into a Pedro the Lion/David Bazan wormhole and came out with information about a new LP from Bazan coming out this Friday. I have no idea what pile of rocks I’ve been under to miss out on this news, but Bazan is so important to my musical history that I’ll be sharing his music regardless of timeliness. The new album I previously mentioned is really more of a collection of songs which saw release on 7″ vinyl last spring via Bazan’s monthly series in 2 volumes. The songs have been reworked, fleshed out, and some have even been redone completely. As a preview, I found this new song “Kept Secrets” on soundcloud yesterday. As always, prepare to be amazed, entranced, and possibly broken down emotionally.

Blanco will hit stores this Friday, May 13th. Pre-order now via Undertow.

Another New Great American Canyon Band

12792358_10156588098425068_8791836717133372911_oDear reader…do you have some time? If so, I implore you to listen to this new Great American Canyon Band tune; it’s a slow burner. Vocals roll in slow, like a storm building atop a gently crafted piece of atmospheric Americana. Lighter vocal touches come in to cover the empty space, and the song glides along as guitar strings are bent in your ear. We’re drenched in rain here in Austin, and this track fits perfectly, but in the grand scheme, it also fits nicely on the band’s new album, Only You Remain…it comes out on April 8th.
