RE Seraphin Shares Stuck in Reno Video

RE Seraphin just recently released the Swingshift EP, but the world doesn’t stop once you drop a release; you’ve got to tour and promote and tweet and all that jazz. So, today, we’ve got a new video for the single “Stuck in Reno,” bringing in a mixture of jangle and twang…surely a nod to Seraphin’s time spent down in Texas (right?!). This song has a nice little backing vocal track that really raises the bar on the melody, giving a soothing charm to the groove. If you’re into what you hear, its available in 12″ and Cassette formats via Mt. St. Mtn./Dandy Boy/Tear Jerk/Safe Suburban Home. Constant Follower Share Live Footage from National Wallace Monument

For some time, I’ve been singing the praises of Stephen McCall and Constant Follower; seeing the band perform in a church at SXSW was, well, spiritual, as we expected. Unfortunately, I didn’t see you all, so instead I’m really pleased to share some special live footage recorded at the National Wallace Monument in Scotland, featuring three songs from the excellent Neither Is, Nor Ever Was LP. McCall’s voice has this purity to it, as you’ll hear, seemingly ready to shatter into pieces the moment you reach out to touch it. As for the recording, there’s such patience in their togetherness, each note serving to carry the song’s lofty goals to near perfection. John Moods Releases It Ain’t Your Time

Feel like we’re riding off into Friday with a need for something that just feels sublimely uplifting, which I think fits the latest from John Moods. There’s something in the craft that seems free of all the recent tropes; I’m in love with the the little details you can faintly hear in the mix, accenting the song and giving it this textural depth that allows Moods to rise above it all with his stellar vocal performance. When he turns the chorus, there’s something there that ultimately feels like a huge power ballad, albeit with an updated approach that gives it a lightness that’s perfect for early morning vibes. John releases The Great Design on November 11th via Mansions and Millions.

Pete Astor Announces New LP + Shares English Weather

Whether you’re an OG the Loft or Weather Prophets fan, you should be grateful that classic pop songwriters like Pete Astor are still doing they’re thing; you might even want to check Spilt Milk or One for the Ghost, to check what Pete’s been up to most recently. Just a few days ago Pete announced his latest LP, Time on Earth, which will be out in October; he shared the below mini-opus with the announcement, so its gotta be on our site, right? There’s all sort of arrangements working through the song: light percussion, tinkering piano, horns, etc; it really builds the song into this magnificent performance, but its success is mostly in the mix, as Astor’s voice and strum maintain a great deal of the focus, as it should be. Tapete Records will release Time on Earth on October 7th.

Phantom Handshakes Drop The Flowery Man Single

One of my absolute favorite dream pop acts, Phantom Handshakes, has a new single out this week, and they’ve given us an advance listen we’d regret if we didn’t share with you immediately. Understated jingles hang on the horizon, waiting for the drums and synth washes to catch up, while Federica’s voice coos atop the mix. Once the opening verse kicks in, my focus immediately shifted to that vocal; it has this really unique way of hanging a tonal switch at the end of each syllable. There’s also a moment when she steps away from the sort of shimmering nature, and delivers this softer melodic vocal that perfectly slides into the mix. Toss that performance in with the classic twinkling guitar sound, and you’ve got yet another hit on your hands; I hope we get a follow up to No More Summer Songs real soon.

Poolblood Shares Twinkie

Already with a couple of shows in Canada coming up, Maryam Said and their Poolblood project is something we should pencil in to explode in the very near future. There’s something so carefree and innocent in Said’s voice, reminds me in a way of Alex from Diet Cig; I love how it feels understated in parts, calm and collected in the right spots. The backing vocals on the chorus build this tasty little pop morsel for your ears. This Toronto songwriter is definitely onto something heavenly, so lets hope we get more sooner rather than later. Well Wisher Sign to Egghunt Records + Share Single

I feel like the best thing we can all do right now is just turn up the music and get lost, which is why this anthemic singalong from Well Wisher is the perfect way to announce their singing to Egghunt Records. Starting off with a stomping drum beat, singer Natalie announces “this song is for my baby girl,” an allusion to her partner and the love song that unfolds in the lyrics. For me, I’m totally stuck on the chorus; it’s this huge burst of euphoric pop rock, and I can picture myself quietly singing under my breath as I turn it up nice and loud. Jam out here nice and loud, and look for a record later in the Fall!

Ben Shemie Shares the Return Single

Ben Shemie, known for his work in SUUNS, has a new solo record dropping really soon, and his latest single just keeps toying with me as I put it on repeat. Sure, the light effects on the video are something altogether anxiety inducing, but I keep coming back to the tune because it so brilliantly builds this tension…that you’ll have to read on to find out if it comes to fruition. The beat races from the beginning, an electronic line that has that futuristic pulse to it; it’s then textured by a synthetically sterile drum beat. All of this allows Shemie to spread his manufactured melody atop the groove; there are some sonic stretches in the voice that build the sound. For me, I kept waiting for it to release, for something satisfying and heavy to drop into the frame. But, it doesn’t, and I think that restraint is why I keep coming back, sitting in the presence of the tune all on its own. Desiderata will be released on July 15th via Joyful Noise/Backward Music.

Franklin Gothic Share Mr. Hangman Single

I know that its Monday, but I’m really feeling the grooves of late night summer coursing through my listening rotation today. This new single from Franklin Gothic is all about that chillwave pool party vibe, albeit with a little bit of weirdness thrown into it. Jay Dibartolo has some solid pipes, nice and softened near the edges, so as to give that coy croon to the song. That feel matches up with the string arrangements that get layered into the tune, taking this late night vibe straight into lounge mode. You’ll find this song on Into the Light, which will be dropping in August via Very Jazzed/Pleasure Tapes.

Mt Fog Shares Behind a Silent Door Video

Seattle’s Mt Fog is ready to mesmerize you with their latest video for “Behind a Silent Door,” with footage that matches up with the band’s description as forest folktronica; it uses some colorful digital sketching to fill in the background of found nature shots. Musically, you’re going to love what Carolyn B is doing with her craft, structuring electronic layer atop layer so as to build a musical landscape where her vocals can come in and out of focus. Interestingly, those vocal notes match the mystic quality of the music, like a playful forest dweller, running in and out of the trees, calling to you. If you can’t get lost in the natural world, then you can certainly lose yourself in this song.
