ATH Vinyl Happy Hour @ Knomad – 5/15

Date Wednesday, May 15th
Location Knomad Bar
Music @ 5:30pm
Tickets Free duh!

That’s right ladies & nerds, the ATH crew is coming out of our DJ hibernation for an all new vinyl Happy Hour event taking place at KNomad this Wednesday the 15th. We are hoping to make this a weekly, or bi-weekly thing as we build into a vinyl DJ powerhouse. As we always do, musical styles will be all over the place with each staff member taking a turn on the deck to showcase their own style. Maybe some twee-pop from Nate Dog? Early Wax Trax cuts from BGray? Or DJ RayRay with bangers from all decades? We promise, you’ll find something to enjoy. Come say hi and make requests we’ll ignore!

New From Waxwork – The Prowler OST

Not long ago I expressed, via a review of their DMTH soundtrack, my extreme love affair with Waxwork Records and all of the incredible releases they’ve dropped over the years. Seriously, they have no rival when it comes to re-releases of old school cult classics and niche horror films. Today I’m pleased to share with you news of the latest Waxwork release THE PROWLER. This is a personal favorite for me in the 80’s slasher/horror genre so naturally I was excited to see what Waxwork would do with the release.

Never one to disappoint, the re-release features a double LP with Army Green Swirl and Rose Petal Red Splatter. You’ll also get some incredible artwork from Ghoulish Gary Pullin, linear notes from director Joseph Zito, and even a sweet insert featuring Rosemary’s break-up letter from the movie. Seriously, Waxwork has done it again. I am peeing myself.

Pick yourself up a copy of the new soundtrack, featuring a score from Richard Einhorn, over at Waxwork Records today. Only $36! Cheap!

First Annual Austin Record Label Flea Market

10479400_783936648390606_8423787667357574879_oThis Saturday is the First Annual Austin Record Label Flea Market; it’s at Mohawk, starting at 5 PM.  Entry is free, all ages welcome, and there will be 28 local Austin labels selling their wares, including some rare out-of-print pieces from a few of them.  There will be a great show following at 9 PM, which is also free. I’m one of the people responsible for this event, along with my friend Marcus at Transmission and Dan at Punctum Records.  So, with that in mind…here’s a few ideas on why I wanted to put this together…including a playlist with a sample from all the labels that are on Soundcloud.

Announcing the ATH Records Web Store

The day is finally here! We’ve had some tweaking to the site in the work behind the scenes by our excellent partners, Paravel, and I’m here to announce the first update.  I hope you know by now that we’ve started a non-profit (aren’t they all) record label, and our first release was Literature‘s Arab Spring (partnered with Square of Opposition). It’s a great record that has gotten lots of national press, so you should definitely check it out (and buy it!).  You can purchase the album directly from us by going HERE.  There’s also a little tab on the lower right of the home page, and we’ll be updating it with all our releases.  If you prefer to get your vinyl in a non-Internet environment, it’s all over Austin at End of an Ear, Waterloo and Trailer Space. Here’s a few great tracks to stream so you know exactly what you’ll be getting. Keep an eye out for more updates on the site, and on the record label!
