One of my favorite releases this year is Corduroy in Italy, the debut LP from Romantic States. The duo magically created this blend of dreamy indiepop, all the while holding onto a cool little edge. Today we’re bringing you a brand new video from standout track “Young Love.” The video takes a bunch of still images, lets them fade in and out of your vision. The song, however, is a gem. It takes on this slow croon, and you’re listening, thinking “this is pleasant.” Then the distortion rolls out like a wave receding from the shore, unleashing my favorite chorus piece on the record. New (ish) Dream Pop from Holidays

Not quite sure why I haven’t heard of Holidays yet, but I’m glad I came across them today. This Roma group have crafted an album of perfect dream pop that I wish I had stumbled upon earlier in the summer–better late than never, am I right? It’s filled with an homage to all your favorite American bands of the moment, using warm electronic sounds and California surf rock to sculpt hooks galore. If you’re into this jam, which I know you will be, you can head over to Keep It Yours Records and pick up the Young Love LP from Holidays; it’ll carry you through the rest of these warm summer days.

Young Love @ Mohawk (5/20)

Many moons ago Dan Keyes used to live and play music in Austin with his hardcore band Recover. After the demise of that band, Keyes left for the big NYC to start his new dance-rock project Young Love. High critical praise has been coming over the last couple of years and now the band are making a stop off in Austin on Wednesday night at Mohawk. Promising young bands Paper Route and The Always Already will provide your opening entertainment. Tickets are on sale now for $10 or can be bought at the door for $12. Head out and say welcome home to our man Dan Keyes!

EKE Party @ Mohawk 7/19

Well, apparently we have a lot going on this Saturday. To add to our list of events, this is a party that has been going on in Austin for the last few years. Everyone Knows Everyone features a slew of Austin favorites, including our personal faves Rory and the Artificial Hearts, Young Love, The Visitors and Recover. There are several other bands playing this little shindig (click here for more information from Transmission Entertainment); it doesn’t hurt that it’s at one of our favorite local spots, The Mohawk.
