As a Texas based blog, we’ve got to rep the state whenever possible, especially when its an act we’re already committed to: Young Mammals. They’ve recently announced Lost in Lima, their new LP…and below it the album’s title track; they had me hooked before hearing the song when they name dropped Wire and Neruda in the recording process. For my two cents, this song is bordering on jangle; it’s got its own bit of fog that sort of hangs over the group, which actually makes the pop sensibility billow through your speakers as things progress. I love the softness of the vocals, like a nice bit of frosting on an already delicious cake. The new record will be out on Wallflower Records on June 22nd.
Man. Houston and their “young” bands! We released the latest Young Girls record this past spring, and now we’re rocking out to this new Young Mammals tune. The bands have similar sounds, maximizing the blend between rock n’ roll and huge pop hooks; you’ll find all the songs just as infectious as this new single…hopefully getting your attention as they blast towards the release of their full length. This track wears the name of the album’s title, Jaguar, and Odd Hour Records will be releasing it on October 28th. Stomp those feet and dig the hooks!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve heard anything from our Houston brothers in Young Mammals and I was actually curious recently as to what they’ve been up to. Well apparently they’ve been hard at work on some tunes for a brand new EP due out later this month. As a preview of their new direction, check out this promising new single called “Doctor Doctor” below. I’m already imagining the band playing this song live in my head and how it surely has to be a badass thing to behold. Here’s to hoping that these guys start earning some of the popularity they truly deserve.
New EP Cease & Desist is available for pre-order now on bandcamp (out November 13th).
Houston amigos Young Mammals have a new album coming out soon and today they’re sharing with us this new song “Speedboy”. Garage rock pop music is the name of the game here as Houston once again shows us that they are ready to get back in the indie game. Stay tuned for more from these guys in the future.

There’s really only one show you NEED to go to. That’s the Ramesh album release over at the Belmont, which kicks off at 7 PM. I’ll be there, smiling, and hopefully selling LPs. But, for those of you who aren’t into Ramesh, which I completely respect, there’s tons going on tomorrow night, so here’s some places you might want to find yourself. Read more
Somehow Houston band Young Mammals has yet to be featured on this here website, and that’s just a shame when such a talented band is living in your backyard. These guys craft their very own stye of noisy, distorted guitar heavy, rockin’ music. What I’m sure is many reader’s first exposure to the band, “Build a House”, can be found below. You’ll find that’s equal parts catchy and gritty all at the same time.
This track appears on a new 7″ coming out on November 5th via Odd Hours[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/01-Build-A-House-7.13.13-MP3.mp3]
