Questions answered by band member Daniel De Sousa
ATH: There was a lot of hubbub last year concerning corporate sponsors and pay to play and what not at SXSW. As a band, what’s your reason for coming to play at the festival? What do you hope to get out of it?
DDS: For us its going to be the first show after several months without playing, and the first show since the release of our two new singles Lejos and Voce from the upcoming album that’s going to be released on March 24th.Besides that, its our second time on the festival, so we now what’s the experience and were looking forward to be there again.
ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. What’s your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?
DDS: Well, we come from punk roots and we truly believe that less is more. We are heading there to get you guys grooving, no other plan of attack other than that. As for set, we usually have a set prepared depending the city/situation, but is usually something which is very open in many ways also, because it allows us to improvise inside a fixed frame or set list. Austin is no exception, plus, we love to play the city, so you can expect some TLC from us there :).
ATH: The festival caters to music fans, but food and booze are an important aspect of the fans and the bands. What’s your band’s food and beverage of choice?
DDS: Venezuelan Rum and cheese sticks. …also brisket đŸ™‚
ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Who would you ideally like to play with of the 1000s of bands gracing our city? Make your own optimal line-up.
DDS: Gogo Penguin, Apache, and Solange Knowles
ATH: Let’s say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems drunk and angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?
DDS: Were used to the kind of shows where everything can go wrong at any time. We come from playing in bars for 20 people in our homeland in Venezuela and we love that shows, because theyre more intimate and everything can get crazier. Were that kind of show.
ATH: What’s your favorite album to come out in the last year? What’s playing in the tour bus?
DDS: Favorite Album: Blackstar from David Bowie and In the tour bus: Akapellah
ATH: Band catch phrase in 5 words or less:
DDS: Listen and rise above.
Many thanks again to the boys for making the time for us. See you in Austin.
