New Dance Banger from Icky Blossoms

It’s Friday and that means Spring Break’s here! In honor, I wanted to toss up some funky hits today, like this catchy new tune from Icky Blossoms. This is definitely a dance track, and I’d love to hear it in the club (you know versus my laptop); the song is the debut single from the group’s upcoming debut on Saddle Creek. Dave from TV on the Radio is producing it, so you know there’s a man with tastes behind the knobs.  The band will be here for SXSW too, so turn it up, shake it a little, and lets get ready to party.

Show Pics: Other Lives @ Erwin Center (3/7)

Most unfortunate, the approval to shoot Radiohead didn’t come through. All was not lost as friends of Austin Town Hall, Other Lives, were opening. Into the bowels of the Erwin Center I headed to get shots of a band that everyone should experience live.

And should I mention I saw Major Applewhite again? Yeah, I did. He was kicking it with Manny Diaz.

Anyway, click through for pics of our friends on the big stage…

Dreamy New Track from Strawberry Whiplash

Long ago we posted about the newest record from Strawberry Whiplash, Hits in the Car.  Now the band have returned with their second single from the record, “Now I Know It’s You.” While the first single was pure pop goodness, this one has a little bit more of a hazy quality, giving off that dream-pop vibe you know that we love.  The great thing about the group is that their tracks are always short and to the point, giving you the goodness you know you crave.  So, if you’re like us, go pick up the record on March 27th from the good folks over at Matinee Recordings.

SXSW Interviews: Spanish Prisoners

Spanish Prisoners are an up-and-coming act who are making their first venture to SXSW, not to mention their first venture together in a van! We all know how that can go, so we wish them the best of luck.  Also, you can download their excellent debut Gold Fools over at their bandcamp page, but be sure to donate to help support the cause! Here’s their answers to our questions: let’s be sure to give them a warm welcome. Read more

New Music From Violens

Yes here we are again, stealing a sweet jam posted by our amigos over at The Gum.  I’m sure some of you have heard the tune already, but it’s just too irresistible to pass up posting on the site.  As previously reported, Violens have a new album called True due out in May via Slumberland Records.  This new song “Der Microarc” has a lot more of that twee vibe to it than the previously reported “Unfolding Black Wings” and I dig it.

New(ish) Indie Pop From Chocolate Robots

This is a fun song called “Young Luff” from indie pop band Chocolate Robots.  Very little info is to be had on this band other than they just release a new album entitled PiZzAfAcE which can be purchased via Cheeky Monkey Records.  The group also has some other songs streaming over on their bandcamp site if this one strikes your fancy.

Show Notes: Radiohead @ ACL Taping (3/7)

As I regroup and prepare my brain for a second night of Radiohead mania, I wanted to reflect a bit on our evening the Moody Theater. Getting be one of the relative few that got to go, I carried a bit of reverence into the venue, no doubt one of the smallest they will play on this or any tour. I was soon disappointed that not all concert-goers shared this feeling of privilege.

Click past the break and I’ll reveal my highs (the band) and the lows (the crowd) and the set list.

New Slow Jam from Leland Sundries

Brooklyn’s Leland Sundries have just put out their Foundry EP, and we’ve got another new track from the effort to offer you up today.  For the most part, the song centers around a nicely strummed guitar, with a deep-toned vocal coming your way.  Apparently the song references a fire in Brooklyn in 2006, so it’s definitely had time to germinate with band leader Nick Loss Eaton.  Let’ this track sink in for a bit, and you’ll soon join us in singing the praise for Leland Sundries–another Brooklyn band with a really bright future.
