ATH & ACL Interview: Beat Connection
As we’ve previously mentioned, ACL festival is only a short 2 weeks away. As we are known to do, we’ll be interviewing a whole slew of bands leading up to the weekend. Today we begin with Beat Connection. Follow the jump to see what they have to say.
ATH: Your music seems to lend itself to a nighttime setting, but a 6:30-7:30pm set on the BMI stage has you slated to start while the sun is still out. Any worries about this, or will it be a dance party regardless?
BC: No, no worries at all, we about to do the damn thing regardless. Cant see much use going into a show with any reservations!
ATH: At your ideal festival, who would be the big headlining act?
BC: Tough one! Outkast? Kendrick? Jai Paul? Kanye? Bey? I guess Outkast cause thats actually happening, we are trying to hang with 3 stacks, let us know if you can help.
ATH: You debuted a new single “Another Go Round,” from your forthcoming album, are the chances high that we’ll hear other new tracks from this next album during your set?
BC: Oh yeah, we are gonna play a pretty even mix of new tunes and old tracks re-imagined for the new set. We are very excited to be testing these new tracks out in the live environment, and its getting rather crazy with people starting to know the choruses for songs that aren’t even out yet.
ATH: Though this tour isn’t particularly long, which city are you most excited to be visiting (you don’t have to say Austin)?
BC: We have a lot of close friends in San Francisco, so we always like spending time there, we are actually starting to get to know the city too which is a serious plus. Sometimes we end up in the weirdest parts of towns just really confused, you can be in the middle of a huge city and still not be able to find anything to do if you’re from out of town with a dead phone and an empty wallet. Actually though, for the first time ever, we are gonna get to spend some off days in Austin, so we are really looking forward to that. We are fielding recommendations.
ATH: What percentage completed is this new album?
BC: Honestly between 90 and 95%, I think we have two verses to re-write and a chorus to re-record. Then its just final mixing. We have a weird writing/recording process and a fair amount of mixing happens while a track is being composed. But we are gonna be doing the final mix of the whole thing and all the b-sides in San Francisco on our way back up from Austin.
ATH: What can be expected of this next release?
BC: I dunno. Tunes, honestly I think this is far and beyond the strongest thing we have ever done. Real talk I am super proud of it, both the individual tracks and the album as a whole is a massive step forward for us. I can’t wait to get this thing out there.
ATH: What do you do to pass the time while traveling on tour?
BC: Stare blankly out the window and think of nothing. (We usually bullshit and work on tracks or read books and run down our phone batteries.)
Beat Connection play on Saturday of Weekend Two over on the BMI stage @ 6:30
They also have a Daytrotter session you can download here that features several new songs and a hit.
