It seems like Friday night is yet another one of those nights in Austin with tons of live music options to fit just about anyone’s musical tastes.  Lankford and I may be checking out Hamilton down at the Parish or hopping over to see Sungod at Red 7.  For those looking to see a promising out of town act on the cheap, head over to Empire for a show by DC based Pree.  You should definitely check out my SXSW interview with the band while you’re at it.  Locals fill out the lineup with Silver Ships kicking things off and Auroravore playing right before the headliners.

New Rock N’ Roll Frolicking from The Sandwitches

sandyIt seems that the train ride with the Sandwitches is almost over, which is sad, as some are just getting on board with the group’s sound.  Their darkened tones on this new LP have been much discussed, but the music you’ll find on their latest single exemplifies how well the band execute a rolling rock song.  It’s got an understated guitar jangle, yet it employs the girls’ playful vocals,which always raise the listeners spirits. Our Toast, the final album, will be out on June 9th via Empty Cellar Records.

Turbulent Single/Video From Heather Woods Broderick

heatherbroderick.10It wasn’t too long ago that I shared with you the first single and album announcement for Heather Woods Broderick’s newest effort, Glider. Today, I’m happy to bring you yet another exciting and promising track from that album as well as a lovely music video to accompany such a forceful tune. “Wyoming” adds a little more drama and rock to the already ethereal style that Woods Broderick brings to the table; I’m enjoying the juxtaposition of raw guitar with her gorgeous voice. You can preorder Glider here, before its July 10th release date via Western Vinyl.

What Can’t Destroyer Do?

dan-bejarI mean really? Over the years, we’ve heard Dan Bejar’s Destroyer go several different musical directions, and with “Dream Lover,” we get a step in the dream rock direction. Judging from the 8 times I’ve played this song since I first heard it, it’s a step in the right direction. This song is huge from the start, and then somehow gets even bigger with its horns-a-blazing finish. Bejar dreams of being lovers on the run, and the breezy music seems to capture this free spirited dream. Such is the perfect track to get you stoked for his upcoming album, Poison Season, which is out August 28th via Merge Records here in the States. August can’t come soon enough.

Way Interested in Nap Eyes

nappyApparently Nap Eyes is a band that’s slipped beyond everyone’s awareness, at least here in the United States.  The first reason the band caught my eye is that it features members of Monomyth and Each Other…two bands I’ve heard of and adored.  Then there’s this song; it’s fucking great.  It’s got this steady pace to it, as if the song was created simply to back the spoken word.  It’s like a modern twist on the music that nerds fell in love with…see fans of The Feelies and They Might Be Giants.  The group will re-release their hit Whine of the Mystic on July 10th via Paradise of Bachelors and You’ve Changed Records.

PYAITK: I Dig This New Division Track

We first featured The New Division a few years back with a track called “Opium”. While they have sent out some work recently, this one stuck with me. The new record Gemini is being released June 2nd and “Copycat” has been my favorite thing previewed so far. It is the synthy goodness I fall sucker to with bass-lines that evolve from disco to wave and darker progressions, eliciting M83 and all bands that influenced them.

So I share, because I care.

Show Preview: Sungod @ Red 7 (5.22)

showLooking forward towards the weekend, as we all are, there’s a show that should be on your radar, making your list of must attend shows.  Sungod, who many missed (due to rain) at Levitation, will be playing Friday night at Red 7.  If I were to describe their sound, I’d throw it into the original landscape of organic psychtronica; it’s an entrancing sound that deserves your attention…and it’s only $5. Plus, the opening line-up of Crawl, Thousand Foot Whale Claw and Gods Gun.  Personally, I’m looking forward to the sounds of Gods Gun, who’ve been rather mysterious, though the band have prominent members about town such as Jose from Ssleeperhold/Boan. Want a show that explores some new sonic territory? Bring $5 and show up early for all the bands!

Hazy Rock From Stonefield

11044964_967184786625430_3994156824728105663_nThe ladies of Stonefield hail from the small rural town of Victoria, Australia and have been rocking since 2006. This new song below, “Golden Dream” shows their loud and noisey rock and roll approach, balanced by the wispy and sugary vocals. What’s good about this track is the simple, yet still able to give you a solid rocking out. Apparently, this is the first of more to come from these ladies from a potential new album, so keep your ears and eyes on full alert.

New Track From Ultimate Painting

ultimateWe’ve been fans of Ultimate Painting for a little while now, so naturally we’d like to share with you this new track from the band called “Break The Chain.” On this number, you get the same kind of laid back dreamy pop that you’re used to from the band, but you’ll find that’s not a bad thing at all. This smooth number that will have you swaying to and fro comes from the band’s highly anticipated sophomore record, Green Lanes  which will be released August 7th via Trouble In Mind.
